Damage model on vehicles

Post by himond »

Description:
btr-60's armor is more resistant on sides than front. Took 52 .50cal shots from aavp7's m2 hmg on front before burning while 72 on sides to have the same effect.

Tested On:
Muttrah AAS-64 (std) on local (not coop)

Lav25 has this problem as well but is less notorious since the difference (20 shots in btr-60's case) is smaller.
Will edit when other vehicles are tested.

Aside from that, why is m2 hmg stronger than its russian counterpart (dshk)?

Thanks for the report.
Sadly some of the vehicles have not so optimal collision meshes since they are from bf2 or other mods. This means they use the same material all around and should require same amount of bullets on each side.

As for the m2 compared to dshk, they both use the same bullets so each deal same damage.

This is weird. The area you marked has the same material as the sides or any other part of the vehicle. It should not be weaker than the rest

Perhaps it's the same "bug" that also occurs in vBF2: The bullets ricochet from the oblique surface and hit the btr surface again. Then one shot would lead to two hits on the vehicle and the btr will take twice as damage as it would take if fired on a side (more or less vertical surface)

But I don't know.. just guessing

LAV-25 also have a weak frontal armor, in real life he can resist 14 mm shoots in game hes take heavy damage quite easy in most of the times the btr can win the lav if he shoots frist.

check this video in a face to face fight and whit full health.

This is the same issue as with the BTR where the whole model has only 1 material. Thats why it has an average between front, side and rear armor all around.
