A couple questions before I download PR..

Post by SeabeeDaddy »

Hi all,

So back in the day a few years ago I used to play PR: BF2, probably around I cant even remember what patch. Now I am interested in playing again, and I have a few questions;

First, are there still a good number of people playing?? Will I be able to go out and find full 64 person servers playing?/

and second,

How hard is it to install PR if you buy the BF2 complete collection off Steam?? I used Steam mainly for my games so It would be easier for me to just download it through Steam and call it good. But if not, then Id be more than happy to buy a brand new copy of BF2 for PR :)

Thanks for any questions answered guys.

EDIT: I was looking at the 1.0 release patchnotes and it said positional VOIP was now integrated into PR? Does that mean Mumble is integrated into the PR game now? No need to go download it seperately and such?

Bf2 is still alive and kicking just like PR is and the PR servers now go up to 100 players that get filled during peak hours at-least.

All you need is a standard copy of BF2 and the rest can be patched for free. It should work fine even with steam and installing PR is done by either burning a dvd or just use a dvd emulator if you don't want to waste money on a dvd or even simpler just use unzip.

Updating PR is now done automatically by the fancy launcher so it is even easier now to keep your PR files up to date.

I'll let you know first-hand that the Steam version works fine with PR. In fact you don't even need to have Steam running if you're playing PR, you just need have BF2 installed.

BF2 and 2142 are having continued support, EA Official statement. Steam install is easy, locate Steam Apps\common\Battlefield 2 and set that to Install directory..

I can't stress this enough

Tell your SL that you are new or inexperienced.

Helps both parties.

Yeah, but it's not a *huge* amount... generally 200-500 players peak, but as long as you have a server that is populated, that's all we need :)

Awesome, and I dont think anyone caught my edit, but is Mumble now integrated into PR itself? No third party downloads anymore?

And on the inexperience, I actually remember it, so it will be like riding a bike once I get about 10 minutes or so in.

Turn your in game sounds down a bit and your mumble up so you can hear local inside the noisiest vehicles.

Also if you played a few years ago the infantry weapons are much more accurate now which you will be pleasantly (or unpleasantly) surprised depending on if you are dishing it out or taking it.

I would re-read the manual once you try a round or two, a lot has changed for the mod since pre 1.0
