Post by John Hansen »

I'm working on a gun FN FAL Used by the Brazilian Army and also by other armies.

The model is almost ready with only a few adjustments and make UV textures.

Hi John,

We are in need of a new FN FAL series since our current has a bunch of issues with it but what software are you using to model this, what kinda tri count are you at for your current 1p mesh and do you have any better pictures, can't see much in your current?

Also if we where to replace our current FN FAL models with new ones, not only would they need to be better detail and more accurate than our current, without their UV errors etc, but we would also need all the different types of variants model with them too. TBH I don't have a full list to hand but to name a few the normal FN FAL with normal stock and foldable stock, L1A1, L1A1 with SUIT Scope, FM FAL both with normal wood stock and fodable metal stock, FM FAP, + probably more which are all the basic FN FAL, but with different components like different fore grips, different stocks, different barrels, different sights/scopes etc in much the same way our SA80 and other Rifle Series have lots of different components made for them that all attach together to make lots of different variants of the same file:

cool, but back-porting from Max 2013 to Max9 is going to be an issue thou since it creates a lot of errors and we have to export the model from max9.

As for saving in .obj, you need to go file>export then select .obj iirc.

Good looking model! Few things I can see are these 2 pics right here. Both are just some mesh issues, simply finding which vert(s) are causing the issue and making a cut should make them right. . .hard to explain but play around with it.

Rhino should have lots of feedback, the man's a beast hehe, but I figured I'd use some feedback skills I've learned from watching him and put them to good use ^^

Mesh error 1: Front stock, middle hole:

Second is in the trigger, left hand side. You also have a little clipping from the grip into the finger guard towards the right hand side of that picture as well:
