Crashing to desktop at random times mid-round. I have updated PB/PR/and DivX. My PC is pretty up to date:
8GB RAM
WIN 7
Intel Quad 3.8ghz ( CPU temp fluctuates 44 - 66 deg. C during gameplay )
Onboard sound ( maybe issue?)
[Name AMD High Definition Audio Device
Manufacturer Advanced Micro Devices
Status OK
Name Realtek High Definition Audio
Manufacturer Realtek
Status OK]
6800GTX vid
1.5 TB free disk space
Zero programs running in background (other than AV and performance status software)
I have no problems whatsoever with BF2, Diablo3, AA3, War Game, BF2142, MassEffect2, or Empire:TW. All run flawlessly.
I have installed, and reinstalled PR. My BF2 files are not corrupt. I play BF2:SF all the time. I have never even had an issue loading into the server. All is good until gametime.
Once I spawn, I have zero lag, my cpu temp is fine, and my internet connection solid/100%. It's when Im playing in a squad, and start taking fire or hear the *CRACK of a bullet ... sometimes its okay and it plays normal, but this last instance, I heard the *CRACK and then I was actually killed. The "You have been wounded." popped up for a split second then instant C2D. no error, sometimes a small dialog that says "Project Reality is now closing." or something similar.
Weird thing is ... I threw BF3 in the trash (literally) because it was the most unstable p.o.s. game I have ever played ... now that i finally downloaded PR, I realize it may not have been BF3 afterall. I've lowered all graphics to Low or Medium and I believe I even turned "EAX sound effects" to OFF, because I heard that was a heavy CPU leech. Its something about taking fire or dying or close proximity explosions that smash me back to my bright blue windows 7 desktop -_-
Anyone help?

GPU or CPU overheating causes CTD's.
An other thing might be that your OS is messed up after all these years (?) or a corrupt install. But that would make you crash more often and not only in games.
Pretty sure something is overheating down there, throttles and closes CPU/GPU intensive programs.
Does your fan blow hard when gaming? If so, open up your case and clean out the fan and case from dust, this is a big and often overlooked factor when it comes to performance.
