Frequently disconnecting from all servers

Post by zzman305 »

Well one problem solved another one gained. I join a server and can't play a round without receiving a disconnect message. The longest I've made it is 30 minutes before disconnecting, and the shortest is 20 seconds. As I've searched through the forum I've found this as a common problem, though with numerous causes. Here's some of my information.

I know there could be issues with BF2 and comcast, maybe Litoralis (Lead Support Technician) knows more.

Make sure you disable the "deep packet inspection" on your Netgear N150 Wireless and Technicolor (Model name TC8305C) modem.

What anti virus software are you using?

And tried re-installing punkbuster?

Windows Firewall is my antivirus and I have it turned off. I've already reinstalled punkbuster twice.

How do I turn off Deep Packet inspection?

Are you just disconnecting from the game or from your internet? Your packet loss might be coming from your wireless connection.

Best way to tell is to open a command prompt and ping your router. If your connection times out on the ping to your router, you know its a problem with your wireless.

-To do this click start -> type in "cmd" in the search bar and press enter.
-A black screen will pop up. Type in ipconfig /all and look for "Default Gateway".
-Take the ip address to your default gateway and write it down.
-In that same window, type in ping (the ip address you wrote down) -t
My default gateway is 192.168.11.1, so I would type in ping 192.168.11.1 -t

Let it run and load the game. When you disconnect, look at the command prompt window that is doing the ping. If it says "Request timed out", "General failure", or something along those lines, your internet is probably fine and you are losing the wireless connection to your router. If you don't see "Request timed out." when you disconnect, it IS your internet.

More times than not, its usually the wireless connection.

Did what you told me, says "Request timed out" as expected. To be honest I'm not surprised. My router is old and in need of replacing. I'll see if a new router fixes it.
