The all tanks have same power and same armor?

Post by ctbear1996 »

Seems T72, M1A2, CHALLENGER, even T62 all have same power..............2 shots , 1 down, or 3 shots, one down

Yeah But there are different hitzones. Challenger has two barrels at the back If you shoot them you need one or two hits. But If you shoot On his front he could survive 2 Hits and you need 3 the armor is definelty Not the same. Join a Training Server and shoot dome rounds On different Spots of a tank.

T-62 is less than a MBT, but ye we have wanted to make the tanks more realistic but have never gotten round to it because its a massive job, not just from a research and implimation POV but mainly from a gameplay POV, as any small change will mean significant alterations to any maps with tanks GPOs in order to balance them out, and if we made the CR2 realistic, it would be seriously hard to counter balance especially with just T-72s. Only real way to balance against it would be to give one side more tanks and IFVs etc but then you've got all the problems of player numbers and then possibly depriving the infantry squads from players, meaning the Brit infantry would steam roll the other side as a result...

But ye, this is something possibly the community could look into but will need some considerable thought and consideration going behind it.

All tanks can be destroyed by:
  • 3 (AP-)rounds in the front
  • 2 rounds side armor
  • 1 round in the rear
The only exception is the T62, which just takes 2 rounds in the front.
Every tank-cannon has the same power including the T62. (aside from the 15secs reload time)

ATGM, TOW and HAT don't kill tanks when you hit them in the front armor although they often get tracked. When hit in the side armor, the tank starts to burn and when hit from the rear, it explodes instantly.

You can't increase the chance of tracking the enemy vehicle by aiming to the tracks. It's a random chance based on the taken damage of the vehicle.

Those are the basics. There are some hitboxes which take more (or less) damage.

Tanks take 2 in the rear. ATGMs do destroy tanks at the front 1/3 of the time

Sort of a suggestion (shouldn't the thread be moved there or to feedback), but going in anyways.

Honestly, just make a "T-72M" when on unconventional Insurgency (ala Sbeneh), less resistant, no thermals, etc. IMO, give the regular T-72 some ATGMs and reduce the damage threshold to 2 hits in the front, balance the possible advantage in the T-62's numbers by lower damage from its archaic 100mm main and keep the Chally/Abrams/ZTZ99/T-90/L2A6 as-is.

Since 1.0 they have all been more equal. It was nice back in the day where armor wasn't all equal but each team got a different asset to balance out the deficits. Like MEC got a weaker T-72 but got a strong BMP-3 with a ridiculous ATGM launcher, which it still has.

For the longest time, you could bounce a shot off the upper glacis on the Abrams. Occasionally it would bounce a third time, letting you onehit an M1A2 from the front due to bad geometry.

Good times.
Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.

The only winning move is not to play. Insurgency, that is.
