Hello Fourmi,
Let's get some info from you:
1. As soon as you start the PRLauncher, the error message window pops up and says "57 UPDATER_ERRORS_57 " or something similar?
Can you still use the PRLauncher after you close the error message?

2. What OS are you using?
3. Are you logged in as a admin?
4. Where is PR installed? what is the exact location of PRLAuncher.exe ? You can right click the icon and select properties, and you'll find the location, copy and paste that in a reply.

For windows Vista/7/8:
In windows Explorer: Go to C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Temp\
Right click on ProjectRealityUpdate directory
Properties
Attributes - >remove read only
Security Tab
Make sure all the users have full control over the directory.
Click Apply,

Then try again.

1: Yes when I start the launcher there's a message window which say me: project reality bf2 updater and then a second message window appear and say me: 57: update failled unable to copy update executable to temporary directory C:\users\Tom\AppData\local\temp\ProjectRealityUpdater.

2: Windows 7

3: Yes

4: "C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\bin\PRLauncher.exe"

Edit: I don't know why it doesn't work and when I remove the read only it automatically re-tick it.

Open an Administraotr level Elevated command prompt window,
Link to show you how:
Run a Command as Administrator from the Windows 7 / Vista Run box

type this:

In order to change these properties, the user must launch a command line terminal and execute the changes by hand, such as this command:

Code: Select all

attrib -r +s C:\users\Tom\AppData\local\temp\ProjectRealityUpdate

You posted a typo, you added an 'r' to the end "ProjectRealityUpdater" , and then I didn't check and just copied and pasted it in my response.

the correct location is:
C:\Users\Tom\AppData\Local\Temp\ProjectRealityUpdate

try this:
open a elevated command prompt again,

attrib -r +s C:\users\Tom\AppData\local\temp\ProjectRealityUpdate

That should do it.

Idk, that is what needs to be done.

Code: Select all

CD C:\users\Tom\AppData\local\temp\ProjectRealityUpdate
attrib -r +s C:\users\Tom\AppData\local\temp\ProjectRealityUpdate

You can download this utility that can give you a UI to do the same thing:
Attribute Changer - Free download and software reviews - CNET Download.com

Are you using a windows administrator account?

You could try to log into windows in safe mode, as an admin, and try to change the attributes.

Fourmi,
Please post your system specs,
PRLauncher->Support->Copy to Clipboard

Paste everything to this thread.

-------------------

Yes you can manually run the update patch file, but it does the exact same thing.
There is no way around the fact you need to have write privileges to the several files in the directory we're having the troubles with right now.

Fourmi, I don't think there is anyone else who has had this problem either.
There really isn't anything else I can suggest, you have some underlying problem with your windows 7 OS.

you might want to create a new windows user account with administrator privileges to try to install PR.
