Can't connect to server

Post by Gengula »

Hey, I'm new to PR.

I wanted to test out the multiplayer today, but the "Internet" button is grey for me and when I click it, it says "Online Restricted: Joining public servers is restricted at this time. Please confirm that there are no restrictions currently placed on your profile, such as modified files."

Well, I already searched for a solution and deleted the BF2 aswell as the PR folders in my documents, turned off both my firewall and antivirus and reloaded the pb setup in C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pbsetup
without success :(

Help please

- Similar unresolved thread: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... rvers.html
- Another mention in another thread of your exact message: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f380-p ... ed-17.html

The reason I bring this up is it might be a net code glitch the devs need to be aware of or hopefully only a corrupt file folder or corrupted path at install. If so I hate to beat a drum today about it but you could try a "clean" install if it is indeed a corrupt path or even the old folder w/corrupt file attached. You already tried a "fresh" install. So much for the random bad or lost file. Do you want to try a "clean" install in case it's the path or folder?

Here's my original answer and instructions for =UN=Q. It worked for him maybe it'll work for you. Believe me it's worth the try and you can always resort back to the original path by default on any future install:

Okay I will make a clean install then. But to be on the safe side now, all I need to do is change the path and install everything (BF2 1.0, 1.41, 1.5 and PR) step by step new? And can I keep the other folder with BF2PR in it, or do i need to unistall it first?
And thank you for your help, I really appreciate that

You don't have to touch the original install thereby keeping it intact. You would now have two versions of the game on your machine to choose from. Remember at install (BF2, patches, as well as mod) when prompted, be sure to specify the new path and use this path whenever you want to access that particular install version.

In vanilla BF2, create a new online multiplayer account.
Try to join a vanilla BF2 online multiplayer server.
Tell me if you can or not.

It's possible you have a corrupt and/or banned CDKey,

It's possible you need to open ports in your router.

It's possible you need to allow BF2.exe PnkbstrA.exe PnkbstrB.exe PRBF2.exe PRLauncher.exe and PRUpdater.exe through your firewall/antivirus/router/router's built in firewall/

It says that I have an invalid CD key, when I want to join one of the servers.
I may have to add that I did not buy BF2 1.0. A friend of mine had it on his external hard drive where I got the game from, so right now I can't even reinstall it. But I have read, that other people with even before working keys, had the same issue when they upgraded their BF2 to version 1.41 or 1.5. Should I buy the original BF2 with a new key and reinstall everything then? I'm a little bit confused :/

Did you manually enter his CDKey?
If you did not, you have a cracked copy of the game and the PR Tech Support forum can not help you.
If you have his CDKey, and his CDKey is legit,
you can reenter it in the PRLauncher:

Open PRLauncher
Click Support
Click 'Keys' Tab.
Enter the CDKey
Click "Change Key"
Click Close.

Close PRLauncher.
Start Vanilla BF2.
Create a new online account.
Start BF2 and try to join an online multiplayer server.

If you do not have a legit CDKey, then you will need to purchase one to play PR online.

Well no, I just copied BF2 from the external hard drive.

I have now bought a new BF2 key from cdkey-game.com and followed the steps. I can log on a server without getting kicked, but it is still not possible for me to play PR online.

Open PRLauncher
Click Support
Click "Copy to Clipboard"
paste everything in this thread so I can see your system specs.

-------------

Can you start vanilla BF2 and log in with a online account? Can you join an online multiplayer server that has punkbuster enabled?

Yes, I can both login and join servers which have punkbuster enabled with my account. There are a few servers where my connection gets lost while I am connecting, but I guess that is more a latency issue.
