My Pr keeps on wont work

Hey guys,

I've just tried launching pr for the first time in a month or so and I'm seeing the same problem as described above HOWEVER I am not launching through desura (I dont use it, i have a direct install) and am just trying to open the launcher directly. The downloading/updating screen with progress bar pops up and then it just vanishes and the process is gone when looking at task manager.

Any ideas?

EDIT - WORKING!

Okay after some fiddling I have managed to get the updater to work and not just crash silently. Basically I found where the launcher is located (for me it's D:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\bin) and instead of running the PRLauncher.exe I ran PRUpdater.exe - This will throw an error but after you dismiss this error you should be able to run PRLauncher.exe without issue. Weird solution but worked for me! Hope it does the same for yourself.

I'm pretty certain Desura is the problem.

IN Windows Explorer, go to

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\bin

Right click PRUpdater.exe, properties, set to run as admin. click apply.
Right click PRLauncher.exe, properties, set to run as admin. click apply.

Run PRLauncher.exe.
Click Support button.
Click "Copy to CLipboard' button.
Paste everything in this thread.

I set them both to be opened by admin and when I tried to open the Pr launcher the updater just popped up and disappeared!

How to add an exception in Norton 360

Add exceptions in Norton 360 for these programs:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\bin\PRUpdater.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\bin\PRLauncher.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Battlefield 2\PRBF2.exe

OK, so let's try the shotgun approach,

1. Set your windows date to sometime in 2013.
2. To fix the Error 59 problem:
you can delete C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\update.lock file, and it will restart the interrupted update. LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE A update.lock file, it's important info for me to have.

3. Make sure the mods/pr directory is not set to Read Only.
4. IF you can open the mods/pr/mod.desc file in notepad, and find the version number between the version tags you have installed now, it can help find a solution for this.

Hummm (scatching chin and pondering) Maybe you need the clean fix. Here's the thread where I walked =UN=Q through a "clean" install verses a "fresh" install. Worked for him it probably will work for you if you've ever played PR successfully on that PC in the past. Here's the thread just follow instructions:

Ok then after a while I deleted my update lock and then verified it through Desura. I was able to open the Pr menu and when I tried to play it said I had to update it but the it when it tries to it just closes. Then I had a look at the pr files and the update lock wasnt back. I also had a look at the mod.desc file and here is my version <version> 1.0.29.0 </version>

I hope u can fix this!

Try deleting:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\update.lock

Then repair the installation in Desura.

Then you should be able to launch and then update from a clean install.

This solution just worked for me, thank you.

You need to bite the bullet and download the torrent for 1.2.0 and reinstall at this point.

There are some registry edits you might need to do, but first reinstall.

Given that your PC was so messed up that not even teamviewer could get through, I think a reinstall of your OS is in order before even bothering with PR..
