Hi All,
I've been playing BFP4F for a while and have been looking for a more immersive gameplay experience, and I found the Reality mod. I've been playing on my P6200 C2D with 4gb ram and Intel graphics. Its plugged into a 1920x1080 23" monitor. I usually get around 25-30fps but the moment bullets start to fly she bogs down to around 15 but it feels much slower.
I also have an old Pentium D 940 and I am looking to upgrade it.
Looking at -
ASRock Fatal1ty H97 Performance Mobo
i5 4690 (3.5 - 3.9GHz) CPU
and 16gb (4x4) ram
Win7 Ultimate
I am hoping to get 1920x1080 on low settings at 30+fps continuously until I can afford to get a Radeon R9 270x 2gb too. Is this feasible on such a set up?
Thanks all, its been a loooong time since I played games, think Half Life and Celeron 333 era!
Ben

What's your budget? You're in Australia, so I'd recommend having a good look at this [I've been out of the "Australian hardware" for about 3 years now so my advice isn't worth anything]:
Gaming/Multi-Purpose Configurations
I feel like you're overspending on the motherboard, but I could be wrong. What are you planning to do with those 16GB of ram?

I've heard good things about the latest Intel IGPs, and you may well be able to get away with decent settings until you pull through for the 270x. That being said, don't expect miraclesBen78 wrote:Looking at -

Re: First Post - I need to upgrade my PC...
budget was about $600, I also do a bit of photography and photoshop needs everything it can get when doing layers and working with raw images. I have a youtube channel that I do prospecting videos and again ram is very helpful on the rendering side of things.
I figured a better motherboard would be a better choice as it gave me more upgrade pathways for the next few years.
But yeah I am open to options - if someone said I only needed a H81 based board then that is a decent saving - but by the same token if someone said that the extra spent on a z97 is totally worth it then I could go down that path.

Majority of the whirlpool builds run 8gb of ram, I guess I could start there and be closer to a better graphics card...

Well, the i5 4690 is a locked CPU. It's also powerful enough you'll end up keeping it for several years because you'll have only a few upgrade paths, i7 4770k, and eventually the i5 4690k and i7 4790k.
If you want to be able to resell the i5 4690 and buy an unlocked CPU, that's a common strategy. IF that's the plan, get an ovreclocker series board of your choice.
Otherwise, sounds like a solid strategy. I can't tell you how the new iGPU 4600 works on PR though, we haven't had any feedback yet afaik.
Look for Futuremark 3DMark06 and 3DMark05 benchmarks for the i5 4690 iGPU. That will be your best approximation on DirectX9c performance, which is what the BF2 engine uses.
Only benchmark I can find,... which looks promising.
AnandTech | The Intel Haswell Refresh Review: Core i7-4790, i5-4690 and i3-4360 Tested
So in general (rough comparison on becnhmark results) the iGPU will run similar to AMD Radeon HD 6570

Re: First Post - I need to upgrade my PC...
Thanks, I've been reading bucketloads of reviews and watching youtube vids.
Considering the following now
i3 4350 $169
Asrock H97M-Pro4 Mobo $119
GSkill Ares 2x4gb ram $99
Sapphire R9 270X 4gb $239
Total $650 posted
I've seen a video of a i3 4330 with the 2gb R9 270x running BF4 at an average of 45fps on max settings and video looked very good. AsRock are claiming 5th gen intel compatibility with their 9 series boards so should give a few years service with only a CPU upgrade and more ram in a couple of years...

R9 270 is a better value: http://www.videocardbenchmarks.com
You can see value of video cards on there. And when over clocked, the 270 performs better than the 270x overclocked. This is based on reading Amazon.com reviews.
The website also let's you see CPUs, motherboards, and other things to make an inform decisions on hardware to buy.

I would say do it. Cause if you can run BF4 @ 45fps max settings.... then you can run PR at max settings iirc. Hell even every game out there.

I'm imagine your using old PC case and other stuff.
AMDFX give you more bang for the buck.

Win-7 64 Ultimte
Getting BF-2 PR-High-1600x1200-100-fps
BF-4 mostly high settings-70-90 fps when
it's not buggy/rubberbanding from a update.

Re: First Post - I need to upgrade my PC...
Ok, I ended up with the i3 set up as outlined above. I am getting 100fps on all max on BF2 and the lowest FPS I've seen on PR at Muttrah under fire is 65, again at all max settings. BF4 lowest I have seen is 29 and that is on all Ultra, max anti aliasing and max FOV but with reduced FOV it stays above 40, happy days!!!
Also, it is running my OLD (2006) Coolermaster 400w PSU too!
