Project Reality 5.1 Audio? is it possible?

Post by SIDEKILL3R »

Hey i am trying my best to see how to enable 5.1 audio for PR  so i can have a better immersion when it comes to game play. I have REALTEK 7.1 audio system that comes with my motherboard so is there any way i can get 5.1 going if BF2 even has it?

You're asking if a game with native binaural sound has the possibility of 5.1... Where did computer audio go so wrong

binaural > all

You only have two ears. Not 5.1

Edit: I removed the video because it was indeed pretty bad. Plus, the two guys were annoying.

This is to just get you started.
Unfortunately that's about the worst video you could've posted. The guy clearly has NO IDEA what he's talking about. He contradicts himself, he is talking about stuff that don't belong, he doesn't understand most terms he's talking about. Seriously, don't watch that video, it's horrible. Oh and then he makes a video talking about how Siberia headset is great lol

I would caution against that too. Hearing another person's game audio when they transmit over Mumble is a pet peeve.

Game audio IMO is fine, it in fact can add quite a bit to the immersion but hearing other peoples chatter and worst of all, an echo of the guy talking from it is pretty bad.

As mentioned, the sound should be in 5.1 already

Playback Devices > Configure

Go through the wizard and make sure you have the correct number of speakers (needless to say, if this is set to 2 then you will only get stereo sound, even on a 5.1 setup).

Also - Be wary of sound modes on your amp/speaker controller. Get the wrong setting and it may receive that correct 5.1 signal and turn it into stereo (or play through all the speakers at once).

Good thing there's this specific step:
Rename the existing/original BF2OpenAL.dll to BF2OpenAL.dll.bf2 or something, then rename the copied OpenAL32.dll to BF2OpenAL.dll
Just delete the new ones and rename the old ones back to the original names, unless you didn't actually back them up.
