Qs about PR's own master server

Post by hussamsoft »

1 :d oes the new master server effects the ping in some countries?

2:will the new master server continue to function lifetime?

3:will pirated copies of the game have the ability to connect to servers since there is no key verification?

4:will the clients experience some lag in a rate higher than before due to the different server?

and that's it, it may I say that hell I'm grateful for PR dev team for their great work on keeping us connected to the game!

1/4: While playing there won't be any 'ping' related issues. The server only functions to store accounts and server information. So that for example the server brower and prspy give the right info. So it only is used for the server (no client problems) and to log in with your account. So no is a answer in short I guess :D
2: as long as there are players and the people responsible for the payment of the server are capable of doing so there will be a server :) (donations always help)
3. Until said otherwise yes. But a further discussion of this is very ill advised as our forum rules restrict us from doing so. There is also no point in it :)

What happens to vanilla BF2 players now if gamespy dies (sry, not sure of mechanics or details). I was wondering if maybe they could only play PR on-line now and we might get a mass of new players migrating over?

there is another project called BF2 revive iirc which is trying to help those players, although I'm sure a few will give us a go

1. No

2. No, everything has a use by date.

3. Yes, but when you first run v1.2, your current BF2 install's CD Key is permanently locked to your machine. You cannot change it. You should be very worried if you're using a CD Key you just got from any old place. If someone else is using it and they got banned from a game server, so do you. To put it another way, it doesn't have to be a valid CD Key, but it should be a unique CD Key. This may be changed in the future.

4. No

Question: If the CD key is locked to my machine, and I build a new one, do I have a problem?

no you simply right down the key and enter the new key in using PR, but since that isn't being used anymore I don't even see that being an issue.
