Game fails to start up.

Post by JohnnyRaygun »

Hello. I have recently decided to try out PR again (1.2 update caught my eye ;) )

I downloaded the latest files and installed it to my steam (which is where I bought my BF2).
Upon logging in and pressing play, my screen goes black and I have to ctrl+alt+del to close the game (which says it is not responding).
Any help to fix this problem would be much appreciated. I have no other programs running outside of my anti-virus software (ESET) and I turned off steam overlay.

Your video.con file for your new profile was corrupted/deleted/etc.

Three ways to fix this:

Option 1:
GO to Documents\ProjectReality.old\Profiles\0001 and copy your VIDEO.CON file.
Go to Documents\ProjectReality\Profiles\0001 and paste the VIDEO.CON file.

Start PR and test.

Option 2:
Start PRlauncher,
Click Options
In the top white box, select your new profile
Select the Video Tab,

Change your display resolution , graphics quality and Anti-aliasing to suit your system,

CLICK APPLY.

test PR.

Option 3:
If that fails,
try this:
Start PRlauncher,
Click Options
In the top white box, select your new profile
Click the RESET ALL PROFILES button on bottom left.
CLICK APPLY.
test PR.

OriginalWarrior, was PR server browser working in 1.1.6.0 ?

What antivirus firewall and router do you have?
Check that PRlauncher.exe and PRBF2.exe have not been false positive flagged by AV and firewall.

Then we might have to manually configure your router, but I don't know yet which ports were written into the new master server and client software.

Standard BF2 and gamespy ports for reference:
TCP
80,Battle recorder port
4711,Remote console
29900,Client+Server
29901,Client Not in use yet
29920,Server Standard Port
28910, Client
44301= PnkBstrA
45301= PnkBstrB

UDP
1500 - 4999,General use
16567,Game port
27900,Stats port
29900,Gamespy port
29910,gamespy port
27901,Stats port

KillerYaNk , we need to reset your PRMumble keybinds,

Start PRmumble:
PRLauncher->Options-PRMumble Tab->ClickBLue Launch Button.

In PRMumble:
Configure->Settings->Bottom Left "Restore Defaults" button.
Click APPLY
Restart PRMumble.

Start PR and test.

I will try that and report back.

thing is, it only crashes when I adjust the video/graphics?

seems it defaults on low settings?

KillerYank, the only other option is this:

PRLauncher->Options-.Bottom Left Reset All Profiles button.
Click Apply.

Did you try to move your old profile .con files in Documents\ProjectReality.Old over to the new ProjectReality directory?

that I did.

that may be the problem but I understood, maybe wrong, that I was to copy the old to the new folder to save from having to set everything?

maybe I will uninstall and re-install then allow it to update again and hopefully the new profile can be retrieved/activated and I can get out there and check out this new stuff..

Re: Game fails to start up.

after uninstalling/reinstalling as well as updating the gpu driver then updating the game to 1.2 and successfully retrieving my "new account" I then made adjustments to the video/graphics and it still gave me the UInt32 error, wow I was pissed. but, a light came on and I went and dragged the video.con file out of the new folder to my desktop then went in the old folder and copied the video.con file and pasted it in to the new folder.

restarted the game, loaded and successfully made it in to a server and everything was good.

the only issue at present is the load time (game load time, not server/map load time) seems to be more time than before the patch. other than that, all good.

I see the server list has doubled and even tripled their servers ie: candy and russian have two going and prta have three ect and all active and near full at the time of this post. hopefully they are not loading them with bots to draw people in, likely not?

if that's not a glitch, it's a sure sign that 1.2 has brought some pr players back from the dead..
