1 Name Per Installer
People are installing PR, and doing nothing else but logging as MANY names as they can. I have seen people with 50+ names under their account... for no reason.
I suggest that we make it so only names that are actively being used can be registered. So per-install you can only register one name, and as long as you keep it registered no one else can take it. But as soon as you register another name, your first name is now once again open for registration.
IDK just an idea, this also might help with stemming cheaters from farming tons of extra names to use as aliases.

Re: 1 Name Per Installer
I myself have 4 main accounts. I used to have quite a few more
Film account, screenshot account, debugging account, DEV tag account, no tag account. And I actually used them all depending on what I was doing.
This idea makes not much sense to the average player. I know exactly why you made this thread, and I understand the reason. But it makes no sense on a average player level as there is no problem for them at all. There is no difference with now and the old system. Only that's it's new so yes, there might be some trolls registering names that don't belong to them. But it's really not worth the effort of putting more work in the account system while there is so much else to do. A limit is something that might be worth the effort, on that I can agree.

There should still be a limit to how many you can use.'[R-DEV wrote:Rabbit;2008246']See my pm to you. One name per person kinds sucks, I play as [OD-S]Rabbit most of the time, but [R-DEV]Rabbit occasionally.

I posted a thread in the bugs section but if you have numbers or dashes in your password when you try create a new account it registers the name but doesn't let you create the account, so the name is taken but you don't have access to it.

What's the deal with it? In BF2 I used to have a ton of accounts, different variations of my nick mainly (like, included tags that simply look better than the prefix or were too long) and the occasional joke nicknames ...
Why should PR limit the player to only one account? What if somebody wants to change his nickname? What if someone joins a tournament and needs to create a new account with tags included in his nickname?
I don't see the point of any limits here.

There's always a way around it as well. Like, delete your profiles directory and start over. There's not much we can do about it, I'm afraid.

So Are you saying people are taking others nickname before the actual person can take it, or are you saying some players are using same nickname as others?
However, I understand what you are saying though.
I remember the days were player nickname was nothing fixed. I'm remembering the only FPS game I ever played before BF2, called Vietcong.
Back in those days I changed my nickname accoring to however I felt, if I wanted to make statement, or make a joke. Something similar to how Squad naming is used sometimes, tho not in good way. You could even not use any nickname at all like underbar or space. I believe default nickname that was chosen as of fresh install was 'Default'.
confusing same nickname for multiple players or trolling happened, but unless troll had serious malicious intent it was just part of a joke. You don't refuse access by nickname used anyway, so if banned changing nickname do not help.
Personally, BF2 system reminded me of overreach. It feels as if registering something with great authority behind it, like Drivers License. You can't even activate the account without Internet connection.
I seriously question how BF2 account system works. I don't have any other FPS games so I can't tell, but is this kind of rigid registration common?
I personally would rather have freedom and anonymity in exchange of occasional annoyance. It's just how I personally feel about multiplayer nicknames.

Re: 1 Name Per Installer
I registered a fair few here myself, having the wisdom to know beforehand - weeks before the release - that there would be a rush for the 'cool' nicks. I learnt this lesson when I bought BF2 back in 2005.
I don't have a regular nick I use online - never have - always preferred to use something for a while until I get bored of it, then pick something else. Having a reserve of some cool other nicks to use is nice to have.
I wouldn't register a nick that I know others have used though - that really sucks - especially if it's someone popular.
It is shitty, but it is first come, first served. It favours those with foresight and speed.
