Frozen black screen when starting up game.

I recently installed the newest version of PR (version 1.2). I mounted the game using CyberLink ISO Viewer, and then preceded with the installation. I did not get any errors, so I assume the mod installed right. Every time I try to open up PRBF2.exe I just get a long black screen (no audio too) and have to force quit the application to make it go away. I really want to try this mod out so I hope there is a fix for this. Thanks!

That's cause you don't need to use PRBF2.exe. You need to use the launcher.

C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\bin\PRLauncher.exe

I am getting the same problem... using the launcher. I set everything up within the launcher and when I hit play, it goes black as if to try and launch, but then never leaves the black screen. No sound, nothing. I have to cntrl/alt/delete to force close it to get back to my desktop. I'm on XP, not Windows 8.

Any ideas?

Have you launched BF2 successfully before?

Yes... I launched and played vanilla last night since I couldn't get v1.2 to work... I have been playing BF2 since release and have been playing PR for over a year with no problems at all. Updated the PR version to 1.2 and have had black screen ever since.

Maybe a stupid question, but have you tried waiting long? For me it sometimes takes a while to to go to the menu.

Try starting the game in windowed mode(there is an option for that in the launcher). And see what it does then.

Also:

Open launcher, go to support, then utilities tab. Clear Server Favorites, Server History, and Server Logo Cache. Then try re-launching.

Also don't run anything in compatibility mode.

Yes sir, I let it sit for almost 30 minutes last night, hoping it was simply a hang up... to no avail. I have tried it in windowed mode (to the same result). I will try clearing the cache and all this evening and see if that does it... but, I shouldn't have much in the way of that stuff blocking anything as I play offline singleplayer... but who knows?

If worse comes to worse, I am going to try a complete uninstall of both BF2 and PR... maybe a fresh install of both would do the trick.

are you running ANY type of overlay software? AMD RAPTR, Overwolf, TS3 overlay, etc can cause this.

Also, AVG and ESET antivirus, among other antivirus problems, can cause a similar issue.

Is your resolution and refresh rate set correctly in your video.con file?

Can you post your System specs from PRLauncher->Support->Copt to clipboard' button, paste everything in this thread.

Negative on overlay programs... I have AVG but read in another thread about compatibility issues so I allowed all bf2 and pr instances... not sure what a video.con file is....

Okay... this is new... reverted back to PR 1.0... installed fine, hit launch and here is what I get...

Update PR.
Test PR.
Then set your Windows date to today's date.

Looks like there is no end in sight to this black screening issue... even in PR1.0 I get it... so... Im not sure what to do. Ive tried everything I can find here, running in a window, changing the settings in the video con file... I just can't figure it out.
