I love this community.

EVERYONE HAS HUMOR.
95.5% of players are friendly.
It's just a different community. (In a good way of course)

Yea, there are few true jerks. But otherwise, everyone is good.

But after reading a few recent posts... You should invest in a mic. About $10 can get you a mic. (Not a headset, unless you get them at a thrift shop)

The community of PR is not elitist, back when I started in 0.8. Only experience I had in PR was the videos that got me into this. When I finally came in, I didn't know what I was doing. Without the extremely helpful community I would have never survived.

They introduced me, helped me, told me the controls, the way things work. All I had to do was ask, and they would respond. After about a year of PR, I invited some friends into it aswell. And they said that the community was as friendly to them, as it was to me.

If you don't have a microphone, PR isn't for you. This isn't an elitist point of view, this game REQUIRES from you to have a microphone so you can vocally communicate. If you have to type, and can't talk. You are a sitting duck, a free kill, and basically. People won't prioritize you. Get a mic, it's a different world.

Like 4chan has its tits or gtfo, we have our mic or gtfo.

Please understand this is nothing personal, we just need to communicate.

Today on merk I saw a team consisting of at least 80% of so called newbies, and not talking about wasting every single asset in a very stupid way and doing nothing for the objective, one of them asked in allchat who is the gunner of his tank (after he drove over half of the map) and continued to communicate in chat with him until wasted another tank. srsly? Why I did not do so stupid things when I played in the first time? (well because i figured out that heavy assets aren't for me and that seemed obvious)
I'd prefer elitist jerks community.

The thing is everyone who is smarter than half of this planet population because he can read/analyze things before fuck it up, has all rights to be an elitist jerk and not pay attention to what someone thinks about it.

Yeah exactly, few years ago when I started playing the situation was even worse. It was mic or GTFO the server (or game) completely.

Once you get a microphone, the game begins. I don't see the issue. I started about 4 years back but I played inconsistently. I'm 18 years now, I was a kid then. And still nobody was elitist to me.

The reason the community sometimes tend to be unfriendly towards new players, is because sometimes they just hop in a server, not having read the manual, and start taking stuff like choppers and stuff, and when someone tells them they can't, they start spamming like a bunch of idiots who don't want to listen. Of course this is a minority, but they're the ones who get easily noticed and who call attention.

I always try to be friendly towards new players, and so should everyone else, it wasn't a long time ago I was a new player anyways. I admit it is hard sometimes though, especially in heat of the frustrating PR losing moments =P

I agree that there are some players who have been playing for a long long time who get very angry. I'm sure that most games are like that. PR can be very frustrating at times when new players come on and really screw up a good game by wasting assets. They don't know any better, but it is happening a lot lately. That is good news because it means that the PR player base is growing, so give them a break and explain to them that they should not fly anything or do armor until they have practiced for a while and worked with players who know how everything works. I get angry at these guys too and want to pop my cork sometimes, but it will do no good. It's just a game ... relax ;)

This community is full of people whom want to play a teamoriented game. If you play PR you should approach it with the right mindset. If you just want to randomly toss the ole pigskin aroud you wouldnt do that while playing an football match either where everybody is strapped up. And if you acted randomly during a game doing highkicks or cartwheels instead of doing guard or whatever your assigned function on the line is, "its just a game" aint going to save you either in that case.

Thanks, but I just live in Japan [teaching English]. This is just how I type, it's not the first and it probably won't be the last time that someone takes offense to my syntax/phrasing :)
A-ha, I knew it! Your accent is 100% not japanese.

But OT:
Most players honestly, in my point of view.... don't respect Newbies since:
-Most of them don't even read the manual... they just install, then play.
-3/4 of them ask questions that are in the manual: "How do I get a pilot kit"...
-A lot of newbies take assets, like choppers and jets, crash them; then either leave the server or TK everyone.

I do R.E.S.P.E.C.T some newbies. Ones that actually are willing to learn.
(I find it OK if they didn't read the manual... ONLY IF THEY HAVE A MIC)

But honestly.... PR is almost like a sport, you have to have Teamwork.

If you don't, you will lose or have a poop round.

But honestly, if you need training.

Wicca is doing a training thingy.... you should sign up!

Honestly I never read that manual, maybe skimmed it but that's it.
I've been playing PR since .3 so pretty much the begining of the mod and I learnt everything on the field, testing new things, and asking people around me how to do things, or just by observing them doing.

I don't mind people asking questions because that means they WANT to learn, the annoying newbies are the ones who don't ask things, just go alone, play like it's vanilla BF2, and when you try to explain things to them they completely ignore you and move on.

I respect most new comers, we've all been there once, but I do sometimes lose my temper, if they take special kits and ask how to use it in the heat of action I might get a little mad, or if they don't listen to you when you try to explain something...

This community is the best I've seen, ever. My recent experience is that I was playing PR and a couple new guys were in my squad and the entire squad helped them get through the basics and how to play. Then I went to play another game, SMITE, I'm new on that game, and I was welcomed with "f*cking noob, go learn to play, you're useless..." and when I asked how to be better I was welcomed with a couple more insults... AND I went through trainings, tutorials and local games before going online... (I also didn't do THAT bad in the end)

So yeah, there are a few jerks around here, but I believe 80 - 90% of this community is willing to help and is nice and kind to each other.

9 years of PR and I'm still learning a few things now and then, thanks to my team mates.

Wrong, most people disrespect newbies because the few rotten apple that stand out are some of the worst specimen mankind has to offer. There was no manual to read when I started.

Example given below:

"Hey, welcome, come to the marker" -I'm new- "Yeh, cool, no problem, if you need anything ask. Just open your map and follow the line from the dot, which is you, to the marker" -I'm new- "...allllright, I got that, you coming? Why are you going the other way? Hello? Dude. Man, leave that APC. How the hell did you get a crewman, I thought you were new. Buddy, listen, get out of the APC, don't solo it, hey! Do you understand english? Come. To. Me. On. Foot." -Herpaderpaderpaadperhurrdurr-

--> Kick and report. Result, either a rant post on the forums about admin abuse here and ******* players there, or subject "X" disappears never to be seen again.

Not understanding basic English (as native speaker) is no excuse for being new and retards that fail to simply listen what someone is saying, shouldn't be playing this game in the first place.

The manual doesn't answer all the questions. Any seasoned player using that as a default answer to questions thinks it solves all problems.

It doesn't.

Even if there is a section regarding the subject, many times the details that would answer the question are simply not there. I even read the manual several times over the years. I re read it a week ago. There is much outdated information in it and information from the new versions not even included.

Teaching someone takes time. Most players rather spend time playing then teaching.

That's simply how it is.

True.

But, off topic...

Is Basic English easy to learn? (from european perspective, or such).

Like, YES, NO, HI, OK, SORRY, GO, ect

It really depends on your native tongue.
Latin root languages such as Italian, French or spanish will have a harder time to learn English while the German based languages will make for a much easier start to learn.

It's also a matter of education, like in France English classes start fairly late at school and everything is always translated and dubbed in French, that makes the learning curve a lot steeper since you're not really confronted to english outside school...

learning basic words is easy, understanding complete orders and directions is another thing.

But there are quite often language based squads, or clans, there are many possibilities for people who are not comfortable with English.

I am a jerk, not always, but 50% of the time. Why? Because I cannot say that I am not a jerk.

The community has changed and so has been the standards for the newbies.

I really just might weigh in as much of my elitist jerk attitude towards players who hold prominent positions within a match (or should know better), because they are responsible for holding up/back the entire team.

As far as newbies go, sometimes I just don't have the conditions to coddle one all the way to the finish line, especially if a lot of people are counting on the success of my mission or some degree of skill and precision is required.

I've played with newbies who are obnoxious to me. I'll sometimes just kick them from my squad so they can find someone who is a bit more on their brainwave to play with. On the other hand, I've played with newbies who have outperformed some of the more experienced players -- in skill and in likeability.

Nah, there's no problem with elitist jerks in this community, just inconsistent and bad adminning. The only that ever had a consistent stabdard for adminning was TG and that's because their rules were detailed, strict and well enforced. You always knew where you stood.

I've been kicked a half dozen times in the last week from Candy Van for doing things that aren't against their rules. Presumably because I told admins where to stick it when they told me to do something really stupid that wasn't within the rules.
