Need Tips - For SL Guide
Hello guys.
I'm currently writting a guide on squad leading which I kind of started here:
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f143-s ... guide.html
I would like to include some tips in the guide from some of the players, here. Just write down simple general tips here, 1 or 2 phrases, about Squad Leading. You will receive proper credits for it if I use your tip in the guide.
EDIT
Just one thing I forgot to mention, try to write your tips in a "quotable form", you know, a simple phrase I can quote directly.

Re: Need Tips - For SL Guide
This is a little old but might have something in it - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... 19083B79F4
My tips
- Set ground rules e.g. stick with the current kits unless you ask or are told. Same for spawning in etc
- Report contacts - My platoon uses weapons red/yellow/green. For: (Red/stealthy) only fire if you absolutely have to. (Yellow/avoid contact) Ask before firing, report contacts so the other squad members can get ready. Finally, (Green/Shoot on sight) report contacts but are free to fire.
- Don't worry about kicking unhelpful people. But ALWAYS tell them why i.e. no mic/ not following orders etc
- Make sure everyone knows the order to stop comms. "Stand by" or "Hold comms" While you're talking to other Sl's. Then tell them immediately once they're free to talk again. "Radio free" or "Channel clear"
- Let your squad mates know what the general objective is, where you're all moving and what your priorities are.
- If the round is just starting, ask for 2 volunteers to play medic. Then designate the "fun" kits.
- Feel free to ask squad members for strategy ideas or game mechanics info. You never know how experienced they are.
Good luck with the guide. Cheers, Murkey.

Re: Need Tips - For SL Guide
The main one that I will give is:
- Communicate with your squad and the squads around as they can update you on enemy movement and other important details.
- Encourage your team to communicate with one another as if everyone is communicating then they will all be equally involved in an attack or similar.

- place rally point before an starting an assault, so in case you get killed and a fob is too far away or got taken out, you can get faster to the objective again.
- tell the squad to do a line formation in forests.
- split up the squad into 2 fireteams in an appropriate situation.
- LAZE LAZE LAZE! Jets and other CAS will kiss your feet. After you've lazed, notify CAS in teamchat or mumble.
- if you need time to develop a plan - take that time.

Re: Need Tips - For SL Guide
I would say one of the most irritating thing about SLing is other SLs not I.D.ing themselves and who they are calling when using SL channel. A good example of how to properly communicate with other sqds would be "sqd 1 this is sqd 2, need help."
I hate when I just hear..."I need help." Then im like "who needs help" and it just adds extra confusion that I dont want to have to deal with.

You need a captured flag, an APC or a Fob to be within 2 full keypads of your rally or it will quickly disappear though iirc.carmikaze wrote:- place rally point before an starting an assault, so in case you get killed and a fob is too far away or got taken out, you can get faster to the objective again.
.
Use the name of your squad member when handing out a direct order and avoid using general orders like "someone get the HAT kit" "someone come to me" someone cover this corner"
In the best case everyone would cover the corner you point out, but in the worst case nobody responds to your order.
When using direct commands you make that squad member feel more important, and you won't hear the excuse "but I thought someone else was going to cover this corner!" and so on.

Keep it fun.
Keep it simple.
If you can't explain it quickly and simply, it is too complicated.
Don't die. If you do, you are doing the hard work. Your squad is not working properly.

Tips:
Don't let the squad mates overrule you.
(you pretty much are the some-what cruel dictator over them)
Have fun while you play hard and teamwork.
Don't steal other assets!!!
Make sure you have good firing lanes with your squad.
Ask your squad how long they been playing.
Ask your squad mates if they have microphones.

COMMO ROSE
3 different commo roses = 3 different sets of commands
Free Kit; Radio right-clicked; GTLD
Use map markers

Most important tip!
- Whatever you plan, it will never work the way you envisioned it!

Re: Need Tips - For SL Guide
- Don't give up on SL'ing even after those terrible rounds where the opposite team steamrolled you and your team or when you're leading the "non-teamwork oriented sheep". It has happened and happens to every SL who enjoys playing on public servers with people he has never played before.

Don't ever get angry or hung up on a failure, always point out what is going well. People are here to have fun not to get reprimanded.
Keep talking! Even when it's quiet right now, people are more likely to be communicative when you are. Start the conversation!
Be firm on your decisions when under pressure, but always be open to suggestions and ask questions when everything is quiet. You are in command, but this is not the military.
Be a part of the machine! Talk to other squads, coordinate, report contacts, ask questions, communicate! If noone else does it, start it!
