One-shot kill against full hp target only happens on either head or anywhere not torso.

Think of it more as incapacitating.ComradeHX wrote:One-shot kill against full hp target only happens on either head or anywhere not torso.
The plate carriers used by military's only protect your chest where the vital organs are located.
Figure in the game when you get 1 hit knocked down by a 7.62, it's like getting hit in the hip or the legs. It's going to put you to the ground. You won't be able to move. Not being able to drag a buddy to cover is, well, a limitation of the engine. Not to mention if you're in the open and receive fire, priority 1 is to neutralize the threat, then deal with your wounded. So it's up to your squad to revive you.
Also, if you get shot in the head in PR, it's insta-dead (to my knowledge) no matter what the caliber is. No revive. Just black screen, as it would be in real life.
As far as open sights being more accurate than ghost ring sights (like with the AR), they probably seem more accurate as you have better situational awareness. It's easier to track your target, making it easier to put accurate fire on them.

Maybe you would like to wear one and get shot by a 7.62x54r round?T.A.Sharps wrote: Dude, so is ceramic plate body armor and kevlar.
Body armour isn't magic.
In-game sniper rifles simulate the "good" shooting skill of "real" snipers; so it's dumbed down for players as players do not have the skill(nor the resolution) to hit vital areas.

Not penetrating != no damage.T.A.Sharps wrote:This isn't a thread about body armor, but IRL it will stop a 7.62x54R also. Dragon Skin Level 5 body armor can stop 50BMG rounds, that is plenty of "magic."
Dragon skin? You mean the higher-than-advertised-failure one?

It seems now the whole body has the same "hit box" accept the head.
On a USMC with a M4 it was 3 hits, in the legs or the kevlar, with a L96 on Brittish figures it was 1 shot no matter were I shot them.
Stop testing sniper kit; they are all either one-hit kill or one-hit black/white.ComradeHX wrote:Maybe you would like to wear one and get shot by a 7.62x54r round?

You also made the mistake of comparing semi-auto dmr(designed with reliability in mind) to bolt-action rifle.
And 7.62x54r is not the same as it was when first used.

Just so you guys remember, distance to the target will affect the damage. Point blank with a Sniper will drop someone. Further away will most likely put them to the black/white range.

IIRC before v1.0 at least, some sniper rifle's damage values are not consistent with eachother.Killer2354 wrote:Just so you guys remember, distance to the target will affect the damage. Point blank with a Sniper will drop someone. Further away will most likely put them to the black/white range.

You're correct. The 7.62mm rifles have one damage set, the .338 rifles have another.

Re: Open Sight Rifles Seem More Accurate
There's a reason 7.62x54r is still used.T.A.Sharps wrote:Really, I could buy a rifle that is more accurate than the Dragunov and Mosin from the Wal Mart up the street.
It's because the closest competitor(7.62x51mm HATO) isn't significantly better.
Complain about how old 54r is all you want; it's still got longer case(higher volume).
Assuming the only difference is the case design; 54r gets more fps. 7.62x51mm HATO so much better, huh?
And I can buy a cheap Mosin that will outlast whatever you buy at walmart assuming it's not AK variant or another mosin.
You compared Mosin to SVD(obviously SVD is better) then compare accuracy of SVD to bolt action rifles built for accuracy. When rifle fails to function it's accuracy/rate of fire/power is nonexistent.
SVD, like AK, sacrificed accuracy for reliability by design(overpowered hammer spring, piston-system...etc.).
SVD is issued in far greater numbers than anything you mentioned; it's not a weapon for anyone speshul, no special training is involved(conscript better shot with AK than everyone in same section = gets the SVD). For that reason 80mm grouping at 300m is just fine; beyond SVD's effective range you will be dealing with 30mm autocannons.
I did test the sniper rifles a long time ago(on USMC) back when MEC can rush docks at Muttrah; with the weakest MEC one it was still one-shot black and white on body armour.
Enough of the offtopic bs. The point is that Sniper Rifle in game has different damage model from typical 7.62x51(such as G3) and 7.62x54r bolt action rifles.
