Love this game but, I seem to have trouble with a few things that are quite aggravating. Not only to me but the other members of whatever squad I'm on.

Let me preface this by saying, I am old school military. I served 27 years 1971 - 1998. I'm all for teamwork, manpower structure, and following guidelines as set forth by whatever server I'm playing on. I sometimes catch myself getting a little to rattled by some of the kid play that happens from time to time on certain servers but I have to remind myself, it's JUST A GAME!

Here is what I am having trouble with ...

1. I'm having trouble keeping up with my squad as I am always having to bring up the map to see the other squad members location relative to mine. On some servers the overhead player sig hardly shows and I have to bring up the map. Is there a quicker way to keep in sight of the other squad members?

2. Is it just the game or is it something I'm doing wrong when I die so dang much with a shovel in my hand helping to build something? Glitch? My position in relation to the object being built?

Any help on these matters would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. The name I go by on here is no longer my in game nic. I had to create new account for some reason on this latest version update. My game nic is "K4GAP" as I am an amateur radio operator.

Greets Old-Trick,

In immediate answer to your questions:

1. Call out. When they answer, you'll know which way they went. The enemy can't hear you anyway.

Learn to keep the group in view when maneuvering and get the SL to let you know when they are moving out so you can focus on your job. The map is the number one cause of death.

2. I wouldn't know why you are dying while digging up an asset that has already appeared on the ground, unless someone has shot you. I'd suppose that you are, in actuality, being crushed by the asset that the squad leader is trying to deploy.

Having placed many assets in my lifetime of PR, I know that assets will instantly kill whoever is under them when they land. The trouble is, assets go through a preliminary check to see if the location that they have been deployed at is suitable. If the location isn't suitable, the asset will try to deploy close by -- this sometimes turns out to be where somebody happens to be standing, sometimes (read: many, many, many times) on top of the very SL trying to drop the asset. *shakes fist*

Whenever you see someone try to deploy an asset, STAY CLEAR! It will kill whoever it lands on, even if you are on another floor, above or below.

It's a bit funny to see the ones who know running away like a flock of spooked chickens when an SL looks their direction with his radio up, ready to drop an asset, but they're smart and know that they'll probably die if they stick around.

The only thing I can recommend is using your squad radio as much as possible. As for the second question, I have no clue.

Everyone had to do this. But you should be able to create an account with your old name if noone else did already. (If you want)

I think with time you'll learn the maps, to recognize the different kits and memorise who is who and that'll greatly help with keeping up with your squad, if you need to know who is where just ask on squad or local speech. And as said before, tell your SL to give you a head up when the squad is moving, I know I find it very annoying when you're covering a position and they suddenly all move without telling you and then ask you why you're so far away...

Even us PR veterans sometimes happen to have trouble finding other people :)

As for the shoveling death, no idea, if the asset is already deployed, it shouldn't kill you. If you're shoveling a FOB alone it might explode and make you bleed but certainly not gonna kill you.

If you SL places an asset near you, the game spawns an invisible object that drops down on the ground and creates the desired object. If you are standing too close, you'll get squashed by the spawning object. Alternatively, as you say, you simply might be glitching into the objects, so always keep on the "sand" for digging.

I guess you already know this, but if some newguys are reading this thread:

Here's how I keep track with my squad:

If you're in a Squad, open the Squad Menu and click on your name (the name changes it's color to white). Now look at the map right next of it, you'll see a white dot on it - that's you. Now be aware that on the map, up is north, down south - and so on. Let's say you see your squad 30 meters Northeast of you - you memorize that, close the squad menu and look down on your compass at the bottom of your HUD. Turn yourself til it's showing to northwest - rest is a piece of cake :razz:

2. If a squadleader is requesting a structure to build up, don't go to the area where he requested it until it's actually there. Otherwise you'll die.

Doing a mic check helps a lot. That way, if they're out in the middle of nowhere and they're unresponsive, you know they're just lonewolfing and you can kick them.

These are the best two answers so far.

Otherwise, try squadleading. It's easy to see the big number on the map and know that that is you!

One quick way to check your exact position is to pan towards your general pos on the map and spin around. The one tiny green dot spinning around is you.

Another hint for the map stuff is that you can increase the transparency of the map (M) in the options, which will allow you to use it as a basic screen overlay, and have it up most of the time, only putting it away for firefights.

But after any appreciable amount of time back in the game, you won't really need it.

If your squadleader has issues an order, you'll see a line indicating the direction from a specific green dot, and that dot would be you. You can also zoom in on the map with the N key, making it easier to find you when you're close together.

K-man, I'm sure you've heard this being military - but KISS.

To stick with the squad, don't worry about the map. Keep the man in front of you and follow close enough to see him. Focus on not being too slow.

And for dying with the shovel if you hear a gunshot. Just bad cover. If no gunshot, just make sure its on the ground already before building it.

For one, short answer no, the persistent squad tags have been removed for realism, however forgetting that irl people look and feel more distinct. For 2, I guess you must be getting shot. Id like persistent squad tags reintroduced for the squad you are in as well.

As has been said countless times, BF2 doesn't work that way, only only the first 64 players to join get name tags, we can't choose which nametags come up, so it's either a half-the-server-has-them or nothing. :-|

Where is that option, I know where it was in BF2 but in PR I can't find it.

Aaaah too bad, I always use the M-map, it's mapped to my middle mouse button, and having it a little more transparent than it is now would have been really great. Thanks anyway.
