For those who wonder wtf is this, well ... this is a light flying ship ... for PR.

My plan is to start making futuristic stuff for PR, and it starts with this. I don't know where it'll go, but that's where it starts. No need to say I actually have ideas for the next, even tho I can't make a decision yet whether it's a new faction (some futuristic private army - but I doubt PR devs will accept it anyway), or a whole new game mode (some huge *** bomber ships need to destroy objectives and the Bells gotta stop them and/or destroy them), or a mini-mod for PR with fights that take place in the future (bringing two futuristc factions face to face) ... The new game mode is pretty much the thing that is more likely to be done (it could be nice on Yamalia).

About the vehicle :

The Bell 475 is highly inspired by a fictional vehicle from a movie starring Sir Cruise that takes place in the future. I called it Bell 475 because the original ship's shape from the movie is based on a mix between the Bell 47 and the dragonfly. So I thought this vehicle here could be a not-invented-yet new version of the Bell 47 from Bell Helicopter, that could actually be made in the future by the same company.

Anyway, I think the model is pretty much done now. Feedbacks are welcome. I still need to make the gun which is supposed to be on the big sphere that you can see on the bottom. I don't know yet how it'll look like, however I can tell you how it works :

It has the same fire rate/sound/visuals than the Warrior cannon. The thing is that its projectiles won't blow up when they hit something. They can actually blow up, but only in the air, and at a certain distance from the ship (from which it's been fired). This distance can be instantly modified by the gunner : he can decide whether the projectiles will blow up from between 100 and 200 meters to between 900 and 1000 meters from the ship (the player changes the distance through the keys : "1" for 100 - 200m, "2" for 200 - 300m, "3" for 300 - 400m, etc.).
The explosions caused by the projectiles will look like the light tanks HE shells explosion (and will do pretty much the same damages).


Now few questions and things I wanna say :

When the ship lands, it slightly leans on the front (the view of the pilot will slightly aim the ground in other words), so I'm wondering if it is actually possible to make a vehicle landing like that in BF2. About the model, right now the bottom of the feet are leaning a bit on the back and are perfectly parallel.
The real question is : can the bottom of the vehicle's hitboxes not be parallel with the main vehicle's axle (the one the vehicle needs to aim in order to stabilize) ?

Now about the textures : unlike the original ship, the Bell 475 won't look all shiny and clean. Initially it's like a fighting jet, so it'll have camo and serious stuff only.
And about the sounds (anders if you're interested in doing something insane for it, pm me) : the people really need to imagine this thing could actually be done nowadays, so the sounds must be something more or less realistic, as if we got some credible technology inside it. So I guess it should be something quite loud and not necessary enjoyable to hear.

Shoulda been put in just community modding :P if you wanted to show it off. But awesome movie, and a neat concept

Not bad, but afaik PR handles present and past conflicts. Why not assist with current community projects?

WW2, Falklands, and Syria all have plenty of work that needs to be finished. Some of the present factions are lacking in some areas as well- from what I've seen the Russians may be needing some new kit geometry soon. In my opinion these would be more tactful endeavors...

Nice modelling start :) Good luck with the project as I said earlier. As a dev I agree with Insanitypays, would be great if you could help out with some urgent tasks and perhaps more fitting new things for PR now. But mostly I'd say make what you wanna make! And if it's this I'd say go ahead :D

Although I wouldn't make everything like in the movie though, as that movie has no place for the infantry. It's all robotic warfare in that one.

I must say the wish of making this ship made doing modeling back, after a break of ... 5 years. So now I remember I can model, and sure I can give a hand. But it sounds a bit sad to let this project down whereas I was so thrilled about it.
On the other side I doubt I'll be able to finish this all alone, and it seems everyone is already actively working on the stuff that needs to be done for the other factions.

Meh I dunno ... I'll think about it.

Model looks pretty solid :)

As for a mini-mod, unfortunately there is a lot of very good ideas of what can be done with BF2 and PR, and only so many people that can work on all of it. And there is only so much time left to spend on modding the game.

If you would ever want to get this included into the main mod, which might not even happen anyway, you are looking at creating two full factions with maps and possibly quite a few custom statics to match the setting, and everything from scratch unless you find a dead mod willing to share their art. That would take A LOT of effort to get done.

Ye as you and others have said, this couldn't go into core PR.

The only type of "Futuristic vehicles/weapons" we would allow in PR (at least to a modern army) is ones that are most defiantly going to be coming into service sometime in the near future, like the F-35. The Comanche for example wouldn't have any place in PR since that project was cancelled a long time ago and has pretty much 0 chance of ever being restarted. As such even thou there are Comanche models that are exported to BF2 that we could get out hands on, its not ever going to go ingame.

Now if your talking about a whole another mini-mod with sci-fi vehicles etc, tbh, this is something I would forget about unless you can find a large dedicated team to help you out with this and have a solid design plan etc, as well as a player base within PR that would want to play this which I think all of which, especially the developer side you will really struggle to find with at the very least.

By all means your welcome to work on this project because you enjoy it, but this is something that isn't realistically going to happen like this.

If your really serious about making a "Sci-fi realistic shooter" of sorts with PR's kinda gameplay, my advice to you would be to start your very own mod/indie game from scratch on a much better engine as the only reason I and many other PR devs are still working on PR:BF2 is because of its solid foundation, which you couldn't build upon because you would need to make everything other than the basic gameplay code which you could use from normal PR, but that alone is no where near worth sticking with this old engine for when you can easily re-create that part on a new engine.

I guess this will never be implemented in PR... It just don't fit the Reality concept of the mod.
However, this looks amazing :) The movie had its problems, but the artwork sure was awesome, and so was that vehicule. I think that you could implement this in BF2142, this would really fit into that game ;)

The model sure looks nice, which just let me hope that you take a look at the community modelling tasks, maybe you're motivated into helping the team :)
