v1.2 Artic Lion - Feedback

Post by Pvt.LHeureux »

Okay, so far I've played both the night version and heavy blizzard version.

I love the blizzard version.

For the night layer, I think this map is too open ...... It's a valley map and infantry gets completely wrecked from APCs and vehicles that are far away. APCs just have to go up a mountain and they can annihilate your whole squad, then if they feel threatened they can just roll back on the other side to avoid HAT/TOW.

I think the main problem is the lack of cover such as rocks, denser trees + bushes, logging houses, etc.

Snipers and APCs rule this map and as infantry you feel powerless unless your CAS is good.
Otherwise the map looks beautiful and it isn't laggy.

Can you edit the thread name to have "1.2" please?

I played both as well.

I would rather let Netherland have two Apache instead of Apache + F-35; at least noobs in apache can be shot down fairly easily with BTR-80A.

Lack of thermals in RUS apc is big problem at mid/long range; need some BMP-2M or even BMP-3 if BluFor is going to get much better air power.

Terrain is too slippery for BRDM-2 with ATGM(not that other maps are much better); I would replace that with the MT-LB with ATGM.

Pro's :
GREAT gameply on Blizzard.
Good FPS
Good Airassets
F35!!!!!!!! ♥♥♥

Cons:
Pretty bad on Ruskies side. Since the BTR 80's don't get thermals. So it's almost useless for Russians to be armor.
It's a armor map IMO.
Dutch easily will win if Russians don't have a CO.

Ideas:
Reduce the Blizzard a lil' bit.
Give Russians a BMP-3 or 2
The 2 times I played this map, Russians were horrible. Their APC's died within 7 minutes from leaving main.

When I was in Russian APC squad with a bunch of other Chinese; we actually pwned Netherland team so hard with BTR-80A and BRDM-2 ATGM they were down to last cap in 5 minutes. But infantry went full retard(one squad went to northeast corner; full retard) then enemy's respawned apache got lucky(instead of shot down instantly) and we lost a BTR-80A and enemy got enough time to set up a tow and shoot other BTR because there is no thermals...

You can do well on RUS side and still lose because enemy got lucky enough to set up anything with thermals or get a semi-competent cas pilot/lucky pilot.

Since this is such an open map, it will probably be more enjoyable if there is less armor so the infantry can come out and play more.

The map can focus on long range infantry engagements. Have less armor and more wheeled utility vehicles.

The blizzard version you don't need to do this though.

I love this map, feels like a mix between Dovre and Qinling, and despite the AASV2 flag setup, it feels fresh every time.

It would be nice if the russians were given a Su-25a\Su-39 to take off from a flat patch of snow or some makeshift airfield, makes up for the lack of thermals.

the map balance is currently really good according to our stats, bluefor wins 50% of all games here.
ATM I see no reason to change anything on the artic lion asset layout.

Is it intentional that the big valley on the Eastern site of the map is unescapable with any vehicles? Had a supply truck in it that I couldn't get out because of the steap mountain sides.

Does anyone else find that the steep hills on this map have an unbelievably amount of traction? I can sprint up slopes which have a gradient of 3/2 with ease!

Is it actually realistic for APCs to be able to so easily drive up these insanely steep hills?

If RU has a half way decent BTR80A crew, the dutch stand no chances on both layouts. It is one of the maps where 1 asset will decide if you win or lose.

RU forces Mi8 "Cow" transport chopper textures are wrong. There is a new proper texture being used on all other summer maps for mi8, should be good to copy-paste textures from there into this map.

To everyone who likes that map, unfortunately we are going to remove Arctic Lion for the next patch.
I think its just fair to let you know, so you get the chance to play it a few more times before the removal.

It was just in 1.2 as we decided to fix it up for the next version, so that dutch forces have some 2nd playground. But the mappers real life changed, so there was no time left to finalize Arctic Lion.

Is there any chance It'll get fixed up? Could someone take over the map and finish it up?

I had an amazing round on it so I'm sad to see it go.

I worked on it for a few days but it's not worth my full time. It should be started from scratch again. Its in horrible state right now. Both visually and gameplay wise.

That's too bad. I thought it just needed some touching-up but that's not the case, is it. Thanks anyway.
