Constant server crashes?

Post by The_Admiral »

It seems every server I play on crashes after 2-4 rounds, and I have noticed an increased frequency in the client CTD'ing while using vehicles in 1.2 versus 1.0.

About the server crashes. It's normal, sometimes it happens a lot, sometimes it barely happens. Very much like me getting disconnected from a game. Sometimes I can play full days without being disconnected, sometimes I can't even play for more than 5 minutes.

It wasn't as frequent before 1.0. And also I have notice in 1.2 about 50% of the time the driver AND gunner both crash a the same time.

Is there too many objects in the folders? I can name a few times where 10 players CTD within a 100m radius of a vehicle. I saw 2 CAS helis gunner/pilot CTd once on Kashan.... both teams CAS chopper pilots and gunners CTD. It was funny but horribly bad at the same time.... since you lost your CAS support right when 4 abrams appear on the hill.

But IMO, servers haven't been crashing a lot lately. It's 2x better than when 1.0 was first released.... LIterally every 3 rounds server crashed. lol.

But devs fixed most of the issues.

Vehicles seem to be a bad point of mass player CTD's. I have seen a couple times where a whole tank or apc or cas squad got disconnected all at once.

I'd like to see the specs on the servers but everyone keeps saying it's not the server, that it's attacks... yatta yatta.. i just don't believe that. It just "feels" like underpowered server boxes that people are renting on the cheap or buying on the cheap and not investing in the real hardware needed. server specs should have been updated with 1.0 but I never got a response. I would imagine with all the players we need beast boxes... 32-64 gb ecc memory, nothing else running.

Could these rolling crashes be linked to my ping on serves spiking ridiculously.

Yeah that's probably the NSA and DEA stealing our packets. Thank Edward Snowden but no one in the gaming world is really turning the light bulb on that this may and probably is a problem not just an inconvenience for gamers. for some reasons maybe it should but too many reasons mankind needs to turn a new page.

From the error reports I've seen, it's more related to errant server code that is causing arrays to go out of bounds or something, but with the thousands of lines of code, it's hard to know. Almost nothing to do with attacks.

It's PRBF2. We gotta deal with it.

I don't think that game has made it this far to not find a solution, that would be dismaying. Servers need to pump out their web addresses so we can all donate easier and get these boxes up to the standard they should be. Granted that means more of us, myself included, need to make donations.

I have answered the question for you before Vicious.
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... specs.html

And it remains the same. The problem doesn't lie with the server hosts. If you are not convinced, the best example I can provide to you right now is PRTA. The server crashes the same as all the others unfortunately and has insane specs that I have never seen used to it's full potential (thanks to the generosity and dedication of wicca)

Intel Core i7-3930K Hexa-Core
64 GB DDR3 RAM
2 x 3 TB SATA 6 Gb/s HDD
1 GBit/s-Port

And all the other servers have specs way beyond what BF2/PR needs.

The problem indeed lies with BF2 and our modifications of it. Many devs have put countless efforts into this problem but it seems hard to track down as there is no real way to get good logs of what makes the server crash specifically. And many faults probably lie with BF2 itself. Our major focus right now is on crashes between rounds and the SA's are helping us by providing us with as much info as they can. We aren't giving up :D

This kind of HW should run the game 3 times at once lol :)

Are there any logs from client that we can extract and post here?

The only error I was able to catch and print was as per this post

I feel bad for Devs since they have to deal with everyone asking this question.
