Friendliness towards younger players?

I recently started playing Project Reality (sometime in march or april, I can't remember), and I haven't really done much in the teamwork category because either I can't find an INF squad, and/or I'm afraid that I'll be harassed. I am a mature and fairly deep-voiced 13 year old (going on 14), but I still don't know for sure how people would react to me using the mic. If someone could please give me an answer, it would really help. Thanks!

In the end this game is rated R (so 16 and above). I've met a lot of younger peps and 98% of them said they are "mature for their age". When I was younger I said the same. Most of the times they are not and usually are annoying (for people that do not have the expierence with childs - being a father and stuff). Thus will result in people harrash you. You either have to deal with it (and that will be hard for your age) or you will leave.

The only real tip I can give you: If you want to play mature games aimed for a player group that is older than you: DO NOT USE YOUR MIC. Otherwise you will get bullied (for the reasons I said above). The problem here is that PR requires communication and that is best achieved via voice. So you are kinda traped between not used your mic and having a hard time playing this game or using your mic but having a hard time playing because of people.

The average age of PR players is above 15 I would say, so nobody expects to hear a younger voice on mumble, but it happens sometimes, and when it happens, older players usually react (not in the best way sometimes). But as long as you don't sound like a squeaker, and try to sound confident and mature, older players should embrace as equal (so beautiful...).

I've had quite a few encouters with the younger player. One of the only young players I've found that had any idea of what he was doing was a bit of an arse and immature (don't be that guy). But I've also had younger players in my squad that performed impecably, in fact, I had one in one of my best rounds as a SL. So, as long as you don't sound like a squeaker, it automatically becomes about your maturity and learning skills, rather than your voice.

And if someone ever starts harassing you because of your age. First, if you're being insulted and called names, report them to admins. Secondly, adress your Squad Leader (if he's not one of the jackasses), who SHOULD be the most mature person in the squad. If the SL doesn't help you, leave the Squad, find a new one. Just whatever you do, don't talk back, it won't get you anywhere, a lot of times you'll be dealing with frustrated players having a bad round. Also, you'll have to face the ocasional joke sometimes, but don't worry about it, it's probably just that, a JOKE, and the guy is probably gonna be pretty nice.

And welcome by the way. And don't listen to WeeD-KilleR, I mean, have you even seen his name? I wouldn't trust that guy. No seriously, don't be afraid of using your mic, the mic is ESSENTIAL, for you to even have fun while playing PR.

Yup, we can all shove our heads in the sand and pretend that this community is accepting of everyone no matter how their voices sound, but the fact is that since you're on the lower spectrum of teenaged, you're going to have squad members who are reluctant to cooperate with you. It's not impossible, so long as you act as professionally as you possibly can.

Kind of makes me wonder how successful girls/women are with integrating themselves in a squad. I've never witnessed one myself.

There are not many women playing PR, I once transported one in my helicopter, she was in a clan squad, and hell she was bossy. Also, this one time on MeRK, there was a girl in another Squad and everyone went crazy about it in the chat, lolz, everyone was trying to join that squad, was always full lol. I don't know how it actually went inside the squad, but from the chat, I'd just say it's a normal reaction, since finding a girl in PR is like finding Sasquatch. It's a rare sight.

This is a common theme around here mate, as long as you are a teamworker then most people will accept you. However, you will get razzed a bit (although this is wrong). The way people behave online is usually shitty at the best of times these days. Being a newish player is stressful enough without people being arseholes.

Those of us who are older than you grew up with the internet maturing (ironic word) into what it is today, and I would unequivocally say the internet is an unsafe place for any vulnerable person; this includes children as well as vulnerable adults.

Saying this, your best bet is to become a regular on a particular server with a good reputation; perhaps become a member of their forums to find where is the best fit for you.

At the same time, try to be accepting of other people too because there will be some players who will take issue with your age being below the recommended age limit for BF2 and will feel unhappy exposing you to adult themes that are part of this game or part of typical conversation ingame.

I recommend AAS for new layers rather than insurgency, playing as insurgents can be harder (as can playing as blufor too!). Skirmish is good too, although it's usually used only until enough players join to have larger gamemodes.

There are lots of good servers out there, I'd recommend playing at peak times for the best players and higher admin numbers. I personally recommend HOG for US times and PRTA for EU times, although I've had great times on FCV and NEW too. There are other great servers out there too, but I don't go on them due to pings or low numbers of English speakers (although those servers might be good too, depending on your pings and language(s))

Never learn how to fly on public server. Create a local server and practice there before doing transport squad on real game. Also different factions have different copters, and different copters fly in a different manner. You had better download Test_Airfield map, it has all air assets (or almost every air asset).

I have been playing a ton of Test Airfield. I've flown about every heli, so I can recognize the fact that each and every one flies differently. And course don't learn to fly on a public server. But thank you anyway!

TBH, most of times when we heard younger players, we laughed at them, or were just like "what's this little guy doing here", so yeah..

As for the heli-flying; I've noticed that I'm a very bad pilot on Deployment just because of the stress and responsibility, even though I can do some 360?-tricks in between to buildings on COOP/Training server. Try flying on less populated servers. Move on to high populated ones.

By the way, to drop a crate from a heli, you don't need to land or even hover, as long as you're flying at a low altitude you can drop a crate at whatever speed. Make sure to practice landings a lot, some helicopters are tricky to land. And DO NOT. FLY. THE OSPREY. EVER.

Oh yes, the osprey is horrible. XD Especially on Muttrah. And I have watched some vidoes on flying, so I saw the crate dropping thing. But thanks for the help anyway.

What kind of gameplay should I start out with? Inf, APC, tank, cas? (I'm assuming CAS takes a lot of communication, which I have yet to learn)

You will have a blast playing coop as the rules are much more laid back and do not affect team as much and is what I'd suggest to play at first

You can get your hands on tanks or mentioned cas without anyone giving a toss. However MP is played far more serious ( for the most part ) so coop would give you all the opportunity to learn the basics and beyond.

Tip - coop has got two kind of vehicle assets - one is for players ( two seats, you will need a gunner or driver ) and AI vehicles which can be driven and gun at the same time by single operator

EDIT - Don't be concerned by age at all. This game is about teamplay and achieving the only goal - to have fun and win the war and I am sure many would rather have in their squad an individual who is valuable to them in a sense he helps his team and obeys orders rather than some unhelpful asshat - whatever their age might be
