Performance Test IV - pr_fpstest4
Alright, here's another attempt. This test focuses more on using PR assets on vBF2 maps. Plus it contains a 4km map I found lying around on the web.
When I run it myself, it's smooth as heck obviously, but I wonder what'll happen if you're doing your thing with 60+ players on them. So if someone could try to host a dedicated server with this, that would be nice.
No idea if this gets us anywhere, but we could at least try and see what it's like.
Download: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/104 ... stest4.rar
How do I "install" this?
The rar contains a folder "pr_fpstest4". Place this folder inside the mods-directory of BF2. In most cases, this is something like:
Windows XP: C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\mods\
Windows Vista/7/8: C:\Program Files (x86)\EA Games\Battlefield 2\mods\
How do I run this?
1. Copy your shortcut to PR, rename it to "PR Fps Test" or whatever
2. Rightclick on it and choose "properties"
3. In the "Target" field, add a space at the end, followed by this:
+modPath mods/pr_fpstest4
4. Launch PR Fps Test 4 through your new shortcut.
Note: I only made the maps compatible with PR, haven't changed the GPO or anything, so don't expect any decent gameplay. Perhaps you shouldn't even try to play, but mess around instead.

Re: Performance Test IV - pr_fpstest4
I've tested it and came to a conclusion (for my PC) that I only get a FPS drop (all high, good fps) when a lot of effects are displayed for example that chineese AA on the 4km map shooting at full rpm in the ground.

Re: Performance Test IV - pr_fpstest4
I was playing with the onboard video processor i3 4130 in 720p - medium and no AA. I did not have lag or fps drops. Only in places with a lot of smoke my fps drop. but it was for lack of graphic power! (gpu usage was 100%).
I traded for a GTX750TI 2GB, uninstalled the old drive intel, I installed the NVIDIA driver and I'm playing in 720p ( 19-inch monitor
) With everything on HIGH and 8x AA, ie, in the best Graphical possible and I was constantly having fPS drop, and these falls is random, with or without smoke in tiroreio or without shooting in tank / apc, by plane or helicopter ... 100 fps is constant, and nothing to drop to 20 to 15 1 or 2 seconds and go back to get 100. already lost assets by these lags ... and when the fps drops, the use of GPU still there in 20 ~ 30%. These falls happen even configure game in LOW and no AA.
I installed and in no time I had fps drop! ranked 60 CONSTANT, sometimes in some explosion went to 58fps! but apparently with NO problem!
Can I create a server (with password) to get some people to test them all at once?

Do you got a server for hosting it dedicated? Maybe the devs can give you a temporary server license for testings.By_Zaca wrote: Can I create a server (with password) to get some people to test them all at once?
Count with me if that happens.

I have also noticed that I have higher and more stable FPS when I use my processor GPU on the i7 over the NVIDIA GPU both in PR and in the test.By_Zaca wrote:I was playing with the onboard video processor i3 4130 in 720p - medium and no AA. EDIT: I have found out that that is not the case with PR only, I installed ARMA 3 and I couldn't even start it with my NVIDIA, but when I switched to Integrated, I can play on ULTRA on 20fps.

How do you let the nvidia card run on on the processors GPU?PatrickLA_CA wrote:I have also noticed that I have higher and more stable FPS when I use my processor GPU on the i7 over the NVIDIA GPU both in PR and in the test.

If you have an i5 or i7 you can choose in the nvidia control panel whether to use high performance nvidia processor or the integrated graphics which is from your CPU on the more modern CPUs.

What so games are running better with CPU integrated GPU then a separate high quality GPU?
That is strange.

I won't believe that until I see some proper benchmarks.

Re: Performance Test IV - pr_fpstest4
Well, in my case, some games won't even start with my NVIDIA, but that's probably because the GT745M is one of the worst GPUs for a laptop.
Arma 3 doesn't even start with my NVIDIA enabled, yet I run it on ultra (3k view distance) on the i7 integrated graphics.
How can I get benchmarks from PR so I can test which one is better for PR?

Re: Performance Test IV - pr_fpstest4
Maybe it's just my GPU that sucks. The benchmark result is pretty similar, but on integrated I get a much more stable FPS. On GPU it goes from 20-80 all of the time and on CPU it stays around 40-60 all the time.

You might have mixed your two settings & FPS reports around, but from that image, the GPU is the one that's stable and the IGP is fluctuating more.

Dunno, I am having problems with my GPU with other games too, it might be a driver problem.

Re: Performance Test IV - pr_fpstest4
There is something wrong with your driver/settings for sure ! because GT745M should be around 50% faster than intel HD 4600 >> Nvidia GeForce GT 745M compare HD Graphics 4600 Mobile GPUPatrickLA_CA wrote:Dunno, I am having problems with my GPU with other games too, it might be a driver problem.
You are using "high performance power plan" when you are playing on your laptop , right ??! that's very important in CPU demanding games such as PR !!!

Re: Performance Test IV - pr_fpstest4
Yes, I am using high performance plan.
I think the driver problem might come from the windows 8.1 update. It was fine before that, so now I removed the graphics driver completely and reinstalled it. Haven't had any BSODs since, but it's only been one day. I'll try games like ARMA 3 etc. and see.
I haven't had any problems with PR so it's fine by me, I don't really want to play any of the modern games anyway

Re: Performance Test IV - pr_fpstest4
I get 60FPS on those maps, it only gets down a bit when looking towards a direction with many objects, like the city.
-----------------------
So, I realized the effects are the problem with my PC. I put the Test Airfield map on the pr_fpstest4 levels folder and loaded it locally, the FPS was pretty much the same I get on CIA's Test Airfield: when looking to the middle, I get 30FPS, when looking to the edges of the map, I get around 45~60. If someone explodes a lot of vehicles close to me, it gets down to 15FPS or even less. If I get on the Chinook and blowup the chopper on my side, I can reach even 8FPS with non-stop fire using the minigun. I also left my task manager open along with nvidia inspector and monitored the hardware usage while the objects were blowing in my screen. The CPU usage would increase everytime something was blowing, the GPU usage barely went up.
I guess this concludes, at least for me, that visual effects are the problem or at least part of it.
EDIT: Tried to make a video of all of it, but my CPU won't support PR + video recording software, it gets too stressed.

Oh, I've made a bit more flights and noticed that inside the CAS choppers the explosions won't matter THAT much, it screws heavily for the infantry only.

Re: Performance Test IV - pr_fpstest4
I read that BF/PR doesn't support multi core very well, so after seeing your nice research with your dual core 2.9, what kind of CPU load would one experience with an entry level quad core in the same circumstances?
I ask as I have the option of putting a good graphics card in an old E8500 3.2 system, and I'd be keen to compare with a more modern i5. Odd it may seem but I only play PR nothing else.
I find it already impressive that you're on all high with 8xAA.
