If you use a Nvidia GTX card, I strongly recommend Nvidia Shadowplay for the recording of any game.

Just use Fraps. You can ocasionally get it for free if you want it really bad. Of course, "I'm in no way implying you should download a pirate copy, or endorsing such behavior."

Fraps is easy to use and the trail version limits you to (I think) 30 second clips with water mark. But you can get the full version if you like it.

Dxtory requires a little more set up and again there are free trail and full versions available. Dxtory gives me slightly smaller file sizes if HDD space is an issue.

Good luck with your new hobby :D

Cheers, Murkey.

Shadowplay all the way if your graphics card is supported. Its free, perfect quality @60 FPS, small file size and only around 1-5 FPS loss ingame. Unbeatable by any buyable recording software.

Will Shadowplay capture Mumble transmissions? Also, Shadowplay doesn't give you a separate audio track for your mic. They've recently added a push to talk function but I'm not sure how reliable that is yet.

I use OBS and it does work with PR.

I believe I have it set up to do game capture. If you are getting just a black screen, alt tab out after launching PR, right click the capture source, select properties and hit refresh. It works for me after doing that (not sure why).

But do you need to purchase a license for any of these?

Fraps is $37

FRAPS game capture video recorder fps viewer

For those that use Fraps, how do you handle the various PTT keys for mumble? Or, do you only record one channel?

PTT keys? Haven't got a clue? As I said, I'm sort of a novice, but I've played pr for about a year? I didn't realise there was more than one channel?

Using autoit, my brother made a program that muted the microphone while PR was open, and would unmute the mic every time one of the mumble PTT keys was pressed, so in fraps we left the setting as "always record" for the voice :)

I stopped recording my gameplay, so I don't have the program anymore, unfortunately.

Hey, if you don't want to buy a license, or something alike ;) , you can use OpenBroadcasterSoftware. It's free. Here is a Tutorial, how to use it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJmVI98RVws
You can change the quality of your recording by changing the bitrate in the "encoding" option.

You'll have to set two lines of audio in your recording software. One for your game (record win 7/8 sound) and the second for your mic (record external input).

I should have been a little more clear. I can only choose one input for PPT, or just capture every sound (including my fan and heavy breathing) while recording. Is there no way to set it up for voice activation, such as with TS?

Voice activation, not that I know of...

To my knowledge, there are two ways of reducing background noises.

1. Cleaning your audio line after production with audacity https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqeG2ZiN_6A
For this, you'll need 2 audio lines, because you only want your "mic audio line" to be edited . I think fraps isn't able of creating 2 audio lines....?!
So yeah, you should think about using another capturing program, instead of fraps ;)

2. Only capturing your external audio line, while pushing your Mumble keys. The problem is, that to my knowledge, no capturing program provides more than two 2 PTT keys. If you only need two, I think dxtory and OBS are providing two.
Personally I need atleast 3 PTT keys. So I made a very simple script with AutoHotkey, to bind 3 keys to the PTT key in my capturing program.
It works, but it's not perfect. Sometimes it keeps a key pressed, even I don't press it no more. And that annoys my clanmates ;) . I don't know what causes the problem...

I've been trying out OBS but it records like 1sec of the game then freezes on that picture (which was the opening screen) and only records the sound, is there a solution for this?

My perfomance is terrible on Fraps. Even though I have a good rig, I loose average of 10-20 FPS while recording. Goes for all other programms aswell. And I tried everything...various capturing codecs, but neither had good performance. Shadowplay was like a gift from heaven. On some maps my FPS would reach around 30, which is unplayable for me. Only shadowplay is able to keep my FPS above 45 at all time.

You still did not say what graphics card you have. If you have a GTX 650 or above, it is supported.
