Been a few years...
Since I was playing PR:BF2 regularly, but things have changed with work/life and I have more free time (yay!). Sadly, seems like HoG's servers are nearly always empty now and the european-based servers are in the 150ms range, so I used to avoid them.
Three things:
HoG/US-based servers always empty?
If so, where's all the North American players at?
What's ArmA 2/3 PR like?
I really never liked the ArmA 2 stock MP as the servers were almost always co-op and seemed to be a bit of a laugher the few times I played; I admit I didn't really give it much of a chance, but on first blush it seemed like a waste of time, MP-wise.
Anyways, older player hoping to get caught up to speed on what's going on.
Thanks for your time.

Free Candy Van. Look at PRSPY, it's currently full.
FCV and HOG are the main US servers right now.

Oh ok, so PRSPY is the server browser of choice now.Brisk187 wrote:Free Candy Van. Look at PRSPY, it's currently full.

Thanks, I'll take a peek.
Any thoughts on ArmA 2/3 PR?

Just a note, weapon deviation and mumble integration are probably the biggest changes since you last left.
I don't know much about Arma 2/3 PR, it's not such a huge deal unfortunately.

I wonder why PR2 devs aren't as community friendly and optimistic as A3 devs?[R-CON]James2464 wrote:Not yet![]()

Thanks, yeah, Mumble was something that a few were using, but I never tried it as the in-game voice chat seemed fine.Brisk187 wrote:Just a note, weapon deviation and mumble integration are probably the biggest changes since you last left.

What's the deal with Mumble? Do you launch/connect before joining a server? Does it automatically handle the inter/intra-squad communications? If there's an FAQ or Mumble/PR manual somewhere I will go read it.

It handles everything automatically, it's fully integrated into PR now and it is really awesome.
A friendly advice would be to re-read the manual again because A LOT of things were changed and A LOT of new things were added

Holy cow there are no players right now on servers below 200 ping, save for 2. Hope it picks up during the daytime in the US. The scoreboard icons are too tiny for me to make out clearly and I am wondering what each one means. Thanks.

Yeah, that was my concern: I thought perhaps players had migrated to ArmA 2ShortBusDeathSquad wrote:Holy cow there are no players right now on servers below 200 ping, save for 2. Re: Been a few years...
Now I am wondering if PR BF 1942 is populated? Went looking to buy 1942 and Origin refuses to sell it "in it's current form" even though there is an executable patch that allows MP without Gamespy. Also, where is the PR Mod version of 1942? Or is there one? Thanks.
I gave up on BF2 a couple years ago because I couldn't stand the graphics and the piss yellow sky and the game play just didn't feel right. But I thought about PR and how they are said to make some games radically better so decided to come back, only playing the PR version this time. PR brings the realism of Arma but without the ABSOLUTELY CLUMSY execution of the game by BIS (even Arma 3 still has massive problems). PR makes everything better, especially for older games. Too bad most gamers are too young to crave something different.
I personally have well over 200 Steam games many of which I bought within the last year, some older than 5 years or designed as such (Farcry 3 Dragon's Blood FTW). People get distracted. I paid for BF4 and Titanfall Season passes, yet I wasn't satisfied with the games. Went back to BF3 (much better though I missed the BF4 maps). Still wasn't enough. Went back to Arma 3. Well, everyone I ever knew in that game just doesn't play the modes I like to play (I prefer PVP and a little less Milism). Plus the Voip has been absolutely wrecked (90% of players voices cut out).
Decided to reinstall BC2, which I hadn't played since BF3 Beta came out (had more realistic damage than the final version, so I was let down when the Beta ended LOL). I was shocked at how many players were still active in BC2. I never got into the SP but I'm doing it now. It feels SO GOOD! But I was sorely disappointed that there was no PR version of BC2 (pretty sure that is the fault of DICE not allowing it).
Hence the reason I gave BF2 another try. I wanted the feel of Arm 3 without the excessive clumsiness, but the satisfaction of BC2. I'll have to see how well I adapt to PRBF2.

Well there was a Desert Combat Realism mini mod, that's kinda close, no where near PR's gameplay though.

Re: Been a few years...
The server balance in North America has changed significantly, FCV (Free Candy Van) is a new player in the server game while HOG is still alive, and although the former is populated more often, HOG is usually seeded by 15:00 Central Time. Tactical Gamer and a few others are gone forever unfortunately.gravyface wrote:Yeah, that was my concern: I thought perhaps players had migrated to ArmA 2R, but that doesn't appear to be the case.
BF2R is/was hands down the best MP team shooter experience I've ever had: team vs. team cooperation at it's finest, the right amount of admin nudging to keep everything together, just solid.

PS: The key changes from v0.95-1.0 is this. See moar details in the actual change logs.
- Nine Billion New Factions (France, ARF, NVA, 1960s USA, Syrian Rebels and NL)
- BMP-1\2 (lol)
- Vietnam expansion pack (integrated into PR installation)
- World War II and Falklands mods will eventually be re-released.
- AN-M14 Grenade was removed altogether in 1.0.
- Many new and enjoyable maps, at the cost of Siege and Qinling.
- Brand New sounds and animations.
- Deviation is pew pew pew (it takes like one second for the weapon to settle).
- Iraqi Insurgents have had a massive change in kit layout.
- Rifleman Specialist has been renamed "Breacher", he now carries time fused C4 (same with Combat Engineer, except the latter carries moar)
- Grappling Hook has been nerfed hard.
-100 Player servers, final 36 players do not have nametags.
-Because of the above, no more stealing basic enemy kits for longer than 40 seconds.
-Backup Iron Sights, press C to engage
- MG and Spotter kits
