Players are still harcoded?

Post by Smegburt_funkledink »

Ever since I got to know this mod, there has always been 'hardcoded' issues that someone has found a way around. We all dreamed of 8 man squads, 100+ players and fast ropes. As the latter is gonna be in game soon, what about the last hardcoded issue? The players.

I've only recently played a few games of PR since I'd last had a go over a year or so back. I'm pleased to see there's still a handful of active, well populated servers going. By now though, I'd assume it may be fair to say that the vast majority of people playing during peak hours would be well versed, mostly veteran PR players. The few servers I've been on had familiar names of players I can remember from a few years back and the usual clans.

When the popularity of PR was growing, it was obvious that any influxes of new players could cause tactical communication issues. That comes with having a whole host of tools that the SL kit comes with, various inter-squad com keys in PRMumble and all the map icons and PR lingo that take time to learn.

The hardcoded issue I wanted to mention is people still spamming 'All Squad Leaders'. Even when some people bother to use the 1-9 squad keys, their radio discipline is shocking. These players rarely use the SL radio map marking ability and simply spam everyone about contacts that have just killed their squad.

I've noticed there's been a work-around sorted for the old 'hardcoded' issue of players using logitrucks as a personal taxi service but we need to figure something out for this SL comms issue.

Are there any other player related intelligence issues that you still suffer from in PR?

The SL comms issue is usually rectified by just saying to the offender 'dude, use the numpad to talk to the squad you need' although certain messages do need to be generally broadcast (at least if a commander is absent) such as if mortars are going offline for some time.

I usually say "mark your contacts on the map" when someone 'all-squads' on the comms. That usually results in that person not saying anything or marking on the map whatsoever...

The players guilty of this blatantly know PR well, they use the right lingo and the 'keypad' system so it's just surprising for a noob like myself to hear such a lack of communication discipline.

I am planning on organizing a squadleader and commander training session. To teach the basics of it, aswell as some indepth stuff.

all comms is definitely one. that's radio etiquette at it's most basic. you shouldn't step over 9 conversations when you could simply mark that sniper and tell 50 players at once. marking the map in general is a lost art. it takes 3 seconds and drastically changes how movements and matches play out.

besides never marking, players still build directly on the objective. there are odd scenarios where it makes sense, but in most situations it's far better to divide the ranges into two proximal fob's, or three if it's contested. especially true on insurgency.

On the other hand I strongly encourage anyone to contact all SLs for mission critical things. I always do that and then enjoy the tears of the cry babies that go "WHY DID NO ONE SAY A WORD HURR DURR!!?!?".

Things that concern the entire team and that are vital should get sent across all chat, even spammed if necessary.

Frustrating indeed hearing people using all squad for trans or apc, as Rudd I just politely remind them of the direct comms facility using numpad it seems to help.
We have a great game with all the tools for awesome teamwork, but I do find the tempo and concentration of players make coordinating with other squads very difficult.
I would like an infantry layer event with space to see what could be done.
I actually find the US servers pretty good for this, but all to often the only time I manage to profit from SL comms is last minute panic reports, although the 8 man squads do allow alot more fire team, pepperpotting, odds and evens style stuff within your squad.

IT's even worse when you have a squad leader doing that, and they have the mic right in their mouth.

But player intelligence issues you say??
Not knowing how to use assets properly.

Like seriously, if you don't know how to use a tank, A.S.K. THE SQUAD. They could/might help you out. I had a guy in my squad (CAS ofc) claim he flew the Apache a ton. I was gunning it, and guess what.... He didn't know that it takes about 30sec to warm up.... and he was holding W the time. Meanwhile, I thought he knew what he was doing. And guess what? When he flipped it... he unleashed a hell shower of his hydras. It killed like 2 Helis full of troops. I could have not laughed, but it was too funny.

It is a common sense, train before you do. It's like not knowing how to cook, and you are a cook for a 5 star restaurant.

Sweet, when do you need me to show you the ropes so you'll know what to do?

Exactly. Perfectly put.

Yeah, I wouldn't dispute that at all. The all squads button is there for a reason.

I understand what it takes to hear through all of it and listen to the info you need, I just feel bad for those who can't.

It's worse for people in Australia, because there is one server located in Australia and nobody is ever on it, which means i usually play on the FCV server with a ping over 200. Still though, most people who play FCV are good with communicating etc, so it's good fun.

I'm guilty of spamming all chat on occasion and I know its wrong but in the heat of the moment and at times its needed. You cant mark shit on the map when you are under the tracks of a tank dead and it could be valuable info to all squads. There are also times when its hard to scroll through the list of squads to find who exactly is doing trans/mortars as occasionally they have odd names and sometimes fall into a role (mortars) as there was no squad doing it and it looked as if it would be useful.
Irritating as it can be I'd rather have comms than no comms. What I would like is people who use the radio to SAY WHICH SQD IS TALKING so if it is a general chat spam at least you know who to direct your chat to.

Common sense goes out the window with some PR players. You dont call some one on the phone and start blabbing as soon as its picked up. You go "Hi Matt, this is Jev" or something similar.

In PR its sqd 2, this is sqd 3 - and then you wait for a response.

The Sl your trying to talk to might be talking to some one else, so going yada yada yada right away is just rude, and distruptive. Even more when its done to all squad leaders.

This is a must and then if the guy doesn't respond after a reasonable delay I'll find and use his name, as I have been known to forget what squad number I am at round start.

Most players do not have any idea how to approach the game being used to spawn someplace and following a set path to the action and shoot. Hopefully this guide helps.

I'm actually a little dicey on marking enemies on the map....

You have to set the range, then the enemy type. Seems very tedious and f*ck-up-able in the middle of a gun fight. Blech I don't know it's just easier to shout "hey theres a tank coming in here!" than mark it on the map and maybe 1 or 2 people might notice right away.
