Crash after update

Post by The_Turkish_Moose »

I'm not sure what the recent update consisted of - couldn't be much seeing as it was such a small size

Just tried joining different servers and this error popped up before the game CTD

Can anyone help me fix this? I really don't want to reinstall PR... again!

It's quite strange that yours crashed on that, I just verified that it's in the repo, e_sam_backblast is in the effects folder where it should be.

Let us know if it happens again.

Also does/ded it crash before even getting into the spawn screen?

My PR often develops infrequent crashes which forces me to reinstall - this is like the 3rd time I think!
It crashed before it fully loaded - I think it was 15%

I've reinstalled PR now but one problem has remained - any BF2 mod including vBF2 itself launches extra slow taking about 15 seconds before seeing anything

used to be like 5 seconds

Any fix for this?

Moose, from the last time around, I was guessing you have either a dieing HDD or a dieing SATA controller on your motherboard, cause all of these problems lend themselves to that diagnosis.

You should run a full check on your HDD and see if you have dieing sectors,

Also, do you have a UPS or decent powerstrip for your PC? Power surges, especially frequent small surges can cause this behavior.

this is happening way way to often.

If you could explain how I can check - that would be nice :)
I'll Google it as well!
UPS or decent powerstrip for your PC
What do you mean here? Do you mean the power strip where I plug my laptop charger in? Or something in the PC itself?

Yes. It's just one possibility that your power source is getting reguarly spiked, can cause these seemingly random HDD failures. But only one of many possibilities. I didn't remember you had a laptop, the laptop charger brick has a power cleaner in it, so don't worry.

OK, to check your HDD integrity....

Ariolic Disk Scanner - free disk scanner. Scan hard drive for read errors. Test HDD
It's suggested you put the program on a flashdrive , or at least not on the drive you are scanning.
