Noobie help

Post by SpadeZz »

So my friends and I started playing PR in BF2. Thing is, there's only like 5 servers with people in them (talking about servers with more than 3 people) and the ping isn't that great either.
So Im wondering, are most of the players playing with TeamSpeak or Ventrilo?
Also, which custom maps should I get? is there any other content people get?
I've also seen in vids that people have mini-maps, is it some kind of addon or someone servers enable it?

Thanks for any help

(I'll post more question later.)

This should answer most of your questions:
https://www.realitymod.com/manual/pr_manual.pdf

The servers to join are the ones with the lowest ping that are populated...

There is nothing extra to download, once you have the 1.2 installer from the website, it'll auto update and that's it.

People use the In-game Mumble to communicate in game. That being said some servers run a teamspeak to get a hold of admins or server regulars. You could should be able to get TS address from the Respective server site or from an admin in game.

For DLC maps there aren't many custom ones to download, but there is a 1.2 retro map pack that has a few old maps that were taken out. Though most severs won't run them because a password and little more teamwork is needed to have it work out well. So you may not want to download them as they won't be played regularly

As for the mini map, there is none for Infantry. You need to press M to bring up the map. While in vehicles though you get a mini map for navigation.

For servers you may want to try the European servers, maybe the FCV on east coast of the states might have decent ping for you too.

I would also recommend you and your buddies jump on a Coop server create a squad and get accustom to how certain game mechanics work such as your weapons, kits, vehicles you wish to use. Not that you can't learn in a full server, but it might be easier and save you and some other from some stressful situation in game.

Please please PLEASE play some co-op before you go into deployment. It's an excellent way to learn the ropes.

Manual and co-op. Those things are the FIRST you have to do. It helps a lot, you and your fellow gamers. ;)

For me, anything from 200 to about 300 ping is playable. There will still be stuttering, etc, from time to time, but atleast you will able to hit enemies.

As said, read atleast most of the manual. Different parts of It will be important sooner or later. Play on co-op aswell, as it is much more forgiving than deployment. You can only get better through experience.

Welcome on board!

When people suggest to read the manual, they don't try to be condescending, it's actually a good start, so I hope you'll find it useful. Some things like Mumble are explained in there, which should answer at least a few of your questions.

Don't mind the ping too much, by the way; PR is quite playable with a slightly higher ping than most games.

So I also suggest this unofficial community driven Wikia,
ProjectReality Wiki
It's not quite up to date, it's up to date for V1.0, , but it's close enough for a new player.

There is also this amazing Wiki, which had a semi automated software that extracts ALL the info from the PR game files,
http://www.wargamer-project.de/wgpwiki/PR
That wiki has absolutely EVERYTHING you need to know to play PR,
you just have to learn how to read some german.
Or use Google translate:
https://translate.google.com/translate? ... edit-text=

And there is a Strategy guide, work in progress, that is being developed slowly:
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f137-p ... guide.html
Direct link to the Work In Progress guide .DOC file itself:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ufdygnn4yuwck ... 2_2206.doc

Also, I suggest the PRSPY app for Android build 4.0 and newer:
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f10-pr ... prspy.html
It's not that interesting, but it has a Map Gallery, in that map gallery, you can choose every map , and every gameplay layer for each map, and the important part, IT HAS A LIST OF ALL THE VEHICLES!
Seriously, I've been playing PR for 3.5 years, and learning which vehicles spawn on which layer is one of th ehardest meta concepts to memorize. Now I just open my phone app :P
