Looking for a mapping Coach.

Post by B2P1 »

Hi guys!

I'll just get straight to the point. I am looking for someone that is willing to help me with several questions considering map making that I might run into while working with the editor.

Why? This is my first time working with the editor and since it's such an old engine the information that's available on the internet is very scarce. But don't worry it will be rarely any technical questions such as: 'I can't locate this file etc.' but more in the way of: 'What's the best way to create a realistic looking river? Help in structuring the lay out of a map that will be totally awesome,' and so on...

Current progress I made so far:
-Learned basic editing skills with the editor.
-Created a real-world gray scale map.
-Made it into a 4km with surrounding terrain map.
-Textured the entire map with Tpaint.

In process:
-Terraforming.
-Waterways. (Just made what it thought was a creek. Nope, 2 appartment buildings wide... So back to the drawing board.)
-Basic road layout.

Oh, and I know nothing about coding or anything, I'm just an engineering student :( .

Hey B2P1. I'm myself starting to learn more about the editor and stuff.

The first place you want to look is in the bfeditor.org website, and it's a forum.

On here, there's Modding Tutorials that cover the basics. It's here:
Modding Tutorials

You nearly missed it, it's the sub-forum :)

As for mapping, the first thing to do before making a PR map is to learn how to do a Battlefield 2 Map as it's less complicated, and will get you to learn the mapping before going advanced. Look around on the Modding Tutorial section and just learn from trial-and-error.

I myself aren't a mapper, and not a coder either, but hope for the best!

Just make a thread on this forum about your map and we can help you from there? :)

The thing is I'm not yet making "a map". I'm only learning how to map :D . And it'd be cool to know a guy that knows his mapping or just anyone that knows more about the editor than I do, that I can ask some questions to from time to time. Just that I'm not spamming the forums.
