Running PR on Cracked BF2

I'm still downloading PR:BF2, and I had been playing a cracked version of bf2 that doesn't use steam. I'm downloading it on my laptop right now since my PC needs new motherboard, and I was wondering if it will work if my BF2 version doesn't use steam, it's v1.5. I know about the cdkey issue with pirated versions and was wondering if I could still play it single player while I fix my pc or until I upgrade the OS on my laptop from Windows 7 x64 to windows 8.
