Russian Optics

Post by Markunator »

I don't see why the Russians only have the godawful 1P29 optic available to them. I mean, that thing is unusable. How about instead of that, we get the PSO-1 and PK-A? And maybe also the PKA-S and Kobra reflex sights? I think the developers really need to consider this. At the very least, we need a better scope than the 1P29, IMO.

start using iron sights. when you master them you wont ever need a scope. i dont remember the last time i had a scope (regardless of map, faction, whatever).

What's wrong with 1p29?

It's good because reticle is on top of scope so you can see where(if) your bullet landed low(or not).

Maybe IRL it's good, ingame it sucks and I also can't stand it.

I don't use it. ACOG without reflex sights also sucks, same for horrible Aimpoint. EoTech all day, all the way.

i guess he's mad at the fact that the screen is blacked out around the reticle due to the way the scope is designed. In other scopes (acog for example) the screen is blurred out. It's funny how in older versions of PR the screen was blacked out around on the acog aswell and ppl didnt seem to complain.

Sorry, Markunator, but thats how the scope is designed. It's not really a big deal. On most Russian maps you're better off with iron sights anyway. There are only a few maps where a scope might be useful (such as Black Gold) but you get the "advantage" of having back up sights where the enemy does not have them. The back up sights may be crude, but they're there. I can only think of Vadso off the top of my head as a map where the opposing team has better scopes and backup sights. But tbh you should just grab iron sights on vadso and clear buildings and bushes instead of sitting atop a hill and picking enemies off. You'll contribute more to your teams goals.

I usually go iron sights when it comes to playing as a Russian (most factions actually). My only complaint, if any, would be that the scope (while unscoped) takes up the whole screen. Other than that, it works.

i actually love the Russian scope the most , maybe because i used to use it 'is that correct?' so i hope they dont change it .but if they do i hope they leave some kits with 1P29

The only other assault rifle sight used in Russian army is 1P78, but the irons are not usable with it so I'd rather take 1P29 in PR. What's more important is that someone must model one first for the mod.

Agree, I hate how the Russian scope takes up the bottom 1/6 of the screen while unscoped, dido for the British ACOG w/ reflex sight. I like the smaller scopes like US ACOG, French Scope, or MEC scope.

As a whole though the Russian Scope is only the second worst in-game for me personally. The Canadian/Dutch ACOG is worse because it is aimed on the triangle and not above it.

OMG, this forum thread Death posted is hilarious! Did you guys read this?

Seriously, though, I'm surprised some people prefer the iron sights of the AK to the scope. It's so much faster lining up a shot when you have a scope. When doing single shot with iron sights it takes so long to line up each shot because the target is usually only a few pixels across.

Your situational awareness drops a whole lot when you're looking down a straw, if you find the right sensitivity you can shift your aim a pixel at a time...I recommend doing this for every game, it helps for most people. Iron sights will always feel quicker because you remain at the same zoom level and have much better peripheral vision.

Buy a mouse with DPI buttons. I always switch to low sensitivity when aiming down a scope and go very high when being deployed on MG/Marksmen or in a vehicle. I do it without noticing anymore. Couldn't play without it.

Damn, that's a really good idea. I always switch the sensitivity manually when I change to the AR class and it takes way too much time. Thanks for the tip.

Sorry it's taken me so long to respond to this thread, but here goes:

Yes, I know that's how the scope is designed, and it is a big deal to me. That's why I requested the other optics that I mentioned in my original post.

1. PSO-1 is standard issue with SVD; it also has the eye cup.
2. PK-A is more of a commercial item more often seen in hands of special forces than regular army; it also has no magnification.

Kind of lucky to even have optics at all. From everything I've ever seen, most Russian units don't have glass and run straight irons.

How does telling players to change their behavior fix the Russian scopes? It's like telling someone with a broken leg, they they should walk on their hands from now on. It's stupid and retarded. The Russian scopes are god awful, the 1P29 is the worst of the bunch. I don't care how realistic it is, it's a piece of ****. The Reticle sucks, the FOV is too damn small, and the worst part is it blocks out Half the screen when unzoomed and 70% of the screen when zoomed, which gives you really bad tunnel vision.

Increase the FOV with the 1P29 and PSO-1 to be equal to the blufor scopes and remove the blotted out space and replace with the blur that all the other scopes have. It's not realistic but it's fair.
If you want Spawnable RPGs and SVDs for Insurgent team

I didn't like russian ak scopes before, and they are a bit weird even now. In theory US rifles with ACOG should be much better, on Saremaa for example. But somehow, I always kill a lot more enemies with russian scoped AK.

After 49828796341*10^22410341 hours of playing with them, I think they're ok.

That's because AK is clearly the superior rifle.
