Commander gets way less credit that he should be

Post by arm-off-please-help »

Hello again :)
So I just finished a round as commander. I'm not the type of person who brags about his accomplishments but I absolutely nailed it!
  • I marked everything I found on the map and also notified the Squads in the area
  • I kept it short and only said the important stuff (no spamming the channels)
  • I told our Armor Squads about enemy TOW emplacements and whether they were manned or not.
  • I told our mortars about all kinds of enemy emplacements.
  • I warned our Transport choppers of enemy Armour and AA whenever I noticed him nearing one.
  • I told Infantry Squads about enemy Troop movements around them
...all that..
As I said - I'm not the type of guy who praises himself....but I was the f**ing* best commander possible. Or really close anyway.

Long story short I got 18th and I am unhappy with how commanders in general are rewarded for their work. You can literally be the best commander possible (like I was) and only get some mediocre score..
Its not as big of a deal as I make it here really ;) ....but sill I think:
  • The commander should get points for setting a mark on (or close to) a place where |that| really is.
  • The commander should get points for 'the right amount' of radio talk (not to much not too less)....I realize this might be impossible to evaluate..
    and
  • The commander should get points if his marks are beeing followed or attacked by the Squads (meaning probably he did a good job communication)

This is not half as rage-post as it sounds.
Just a general notice.

greetings,

Just as a little follow up: In contrast its really easy to get 1st place by being a medic who follows the squadleader around or by beeing Squadleader AND driver of an armored asset.

My biggest pleasure when i play as Commander is to get my team win with a maximum amount of tickets, score ? i don't really care imo.

Commanding shine your reputation if you are successful, because people aren't stupid, if they spend a good round with you they will have the tendency to play more often on your side with more teamwork.

Just my opinion.

Yes of course. As I said - it's not that big a deal. I still enjoy playing commander - and noone notices the commander score anyway. But still - the score system should reflect on how well a commander has done.

Well i am doing the commander job for a long time and i never heard a GJ Commander.. But i dont need to hear that because If you doing a good job as commander the players will remember your name and when you keeping the good work up soon the entire Team will obey and follow your Lead.

When the entire Team is listening to you.. well thats the biggest achievment you can get as a commander..

I agree with Elmariachi. A good commander gets the huge accomplishment that ~48 players are listening and obeying him.

But you are right, imho it is netiquette to thank a commander for his great work (if he was above mediocre) just as it is to say that to your SL.

Scoreboard is just "lol morepoints", dont bother with it.

Since BF2 the CO was always on top, so there is enough credit in the scoreboard for him already.

I don't give a single shit about the scoreboard. It does not resemble the ingame activities correctly anyways.

btw what you described there was good. There is always need for people doing that. But don't twist that up with actual commanding. There are different things you can do in the commander position. One of them is spotting and operating the UAV.

'the f**ing* best commander possible' would rule over all of his squads. Organize transport and coordinate well planned inter-squads assaults and defences, while also providing all the intel.

Often this can be only accomplished in organized battles and not in public matches.

And from my experience, you can provide only half of the intel when also commanding at the same time. So focusing on spotting only in public games, where gameplay is more relaxed anyways, is usually more effective than trying to actually command.

So keep on spotting, it helps a team alot and is much appreciated by everyone. But If you want a real challenge and try to really command, sign up for CO position in some battle and lead your team to victory.

The feeling of winning a match against an organized team as a Commander is worth more than a million points on the scoreboard :)

Why you worry about the score board???

But, people don't really want to give you credit for telling them about the APC that was about to annihilate them, but then they killed it after you telling them.

As a commander, score is the last thing...

Teamwork is the first.
