Tonight was bad, really, really bad.

There is no priority to defend caches and people do not work as a team - I believe that we either need random spawns instead of hideouts, or we need to do away with the Insurgent team and turn them into a conventional faction that can be governed from derpage by the usual admin/player methods - Asset squads, inf squads, etc.

Which is a shame as Insurgency is (was) my favourite game-mode.

Love being the commander as the underdog because it a challenge for me to get the team to win if only they could built hideouts as much as possible no reason why the insurgents can't win

It really depends for me, Insurgents with a clan squad can be amazing, you can set up some great ambushes, but if you dont have that teamwork it becomes a turkey shoot pretty fast. IIRC I played with K4on pre around 1.1 and we managed to win against the US on fallujah, and with great comms between squads really bloodied up the US and won with about 3 caches left.

If im not playing with clan members I prefer blufor, as players mentality is still pretty tactical, to many people turn it into a jihad when they go INS.

Even leading an OD-S squad can turn to cat herding as INS.

If I'm bored: on insurgency, setting IEDs and waiting patiently for targets and getting that ecstasy moment. That feel is awesome when you and your pals ambush a convoy with RPGs and PKMs. Then some jihad-joe blows the remaining shit out with RKG-3.

Not gonna vote, because I think it just depends on the map.

Kokan is fun as the insurgents, so is Fallujah & afew others.
But maps like Karbala & Lashkar, I prefer being Blufor.

Depends for me too. Not going to vote, but being insurgent is more attractive, since its difficult and you need to apply completely different tactics. Ambush ftw. Havent played it recently, but the problem in the last days of me playing it was that some of the clans knew exactly where the cache is going to spawn, or they knew approximate locations. The other problem is when people actually start spawning on that cache, where observers could pinpoint location easily. As I recall Fallujah was a hell for Blufor, so as Karbala, but Kokan was pretty hard to defend. Again it all depends on the teamwork.

Before the match starts, its hard to guess which squad is going to do something besides camp the known. When you suggest it, they act like it's an impossible task. I wish we could add some strategy tips on the loading screens for INS. At least add that and to camp an area that doesn't have a cache, and make them think they're camping a cache.

Join PRT and you'll see what tricks are used ;-)

One of them is as you said occupying an area where there is no cache, spotting for mortar attacks, and mounting ambushes around empty area, while the real cache is being guarded by just one squad and well placed system of hideouts.

I prefer Blufor primarily because of optics.

I prefer insurgents as it is more of a challenge without optics on every gun.

I prefer insurgents. There's something a lot more satisfying about killing the enemy using explosives and trickery rather than having sniping contests with them.

Also, taunting the APC crewmen to come out of the vehicle and then shooting them with the Skorpion (medic class) is the most hilarious thing ever.

Outshooting guys with optics as an insurgent is just the best thing ever. I have to say though, being an insurgent squad leader can be pretty lame. The lack of vehicles and rally points, and the fact that most of the time bluefor boxes in the cache so you can't flank or counter-attack gives you very few choices. You just keep sending your men to the cache in swarms until bluefor runs out of tickets. Can get pretty boring.

Coming up with unexpected ways to play PR that you simply can't do in AAS is one of my favorite parts of the game. Being yakkety saxxed around as civillian while I get chased by ziptie-wielding blufor is hilarious.

Having a blufor-fob-hunting insurgent squad is so important, to make sure their reinforcements are always as crippled as possible, or they have to leave behind a squad to defend their fobs. I usually run a "FOB" squad on insurgency maps, which means my squad travels around making friendly fobs (always try to have all 6 fobs active at any point) and destroying enemy fobs.

The variety of building and hunting/attacking makes for a very interesting dynamic, but unfortunately it does rely on having at least one competent squad actually defending the immediate cache area... which generally doesn't happen which means I have to leave half my squad there which ends up making my initial goals very hard to achieve.

I can see that being a good strategy on some maps but on smaller overcrowded ones like fallujah or ones with wide open spaces like basrah or karbala its too easy to get picked off if you stray from the cache area, and there always seems to be a lack of vehicles anyway. Those are the kind of maps that i feel give the insurgents very few strategic choices.

If you have any strategies for these kind of maps id be glad to hear them.

I think the key once the blufor has started beating into the primary combat areas of the map (away from their main and MSRs) towards the cache is to have an extensive system of hideouts. Too frequently I'll find myself spawning on an unknown or even at main because there is nothing closer for reinforcement of an overrun cache. Because it's so hard to get back to a cache when there are no hideouts many players give up on it once it becomes unspawnable.
