It's not that I think squads are too small to effectively use an MMG, it's that I don't think the MMG is weapon that's designed to work in a regular infantry section. Realistically MMGs are deployed in a platoon level weapons detachment (as I've said several times) and are used for long range fire support. They are meant to be more static than the section level LMG. However in PR the type of dynamic you are suggesting, which is to simply embed the MMG into a regular infantry section doesn't work (or at least isn't ideal). Squads are supposed mobile forces, able to push and defend points and respond to contact quickly.
It's funny you make the comparison to snipers, considering that kit is probably the least correctly used kit in the game. 90% of the time snipers sit up on a mountain and pick off individual soldiers the entire game and are generally pretty useless. There are situations an MMG team could successfully engage infantry on their own and come out on top. For instance, a squad is crossing an open field at a distance that is pushing the effective range of their standard rifles. An MMG operating with a spotter could successfully engage and kill an entire squad if they shoot well enough. But again (like I've said before) the MMG shouldn't be used independently and should support the infantry squads. I have no doubt however that if an MMG team decided to push an objective without any support they would be completely destroyed, as they should be. There's a right and wrong way to use every asset in PR (including kits) and that would simply be the wrong way.
I don't think it's worth increasing the squad size simply to accommodate an MMG team. 8 is already pushing it for PR, considering vehicles have a hard-coded limit of 8 seats it would be a nightmare trying to organize transport for a squad of 12 people.
Make the MMG only require 3 squad members
