System utilisation
I have a question for some experts out there. How well (or poorly) does battlefield 2 utilise our systems? I know it runs off of a single core but how much RAM does this engine use - how much of our GPU does it use and how much of our CPU does it use? I'm looking for ways to optimise Project Reality but changing settings seem to make no difference
Any advice would be appreciated

Re: System utilisation
Post your system specs.
in all x64 version of windows (except WinXP X64 which is end of life), PR will use as much RAM as it needs as long as there is RAM available.
BF2 and PR use 2 cores. Kinda.
CPU calculations Millions of Instructions Per Second (MIPS) or Millions of Floating Point Operations Per Second (MFLOPS) is the most useful benchmark here, but while I understand it when reading up on it, I'm not fluent enough to convey it in a soundbite for the PR forum.
PC CPU Performance Comparisons - Including Athlon 64 and Core 2 Duo Benchmark Results
The reason that AMD CPUs fall behind Intel CPUs specific to BF2/PR is because of AMD's lower MIPS/MFLOPS.
But practically, As an end user with existing system, the best you can do is overclock the CPU, so even if you have less transistors, they are calculating at a faster clock speed.

Re: System utilisation
It's worth mentioning that this is a laptop I'm using - My specs:
i7-3630QM CPU @ 2.40GHz
16GB RAM
64-bit
GeForce GT 650M 2GB
Windows 8.1
I wouldn't dare over clock a laptop as the cooling system would not be able to control the extra heat

Re: System utilisation
I used to have a similar system (i7 363qm and 750m which is a overclocked 650m). I could run the game on all high settings 1080p fine except some of the city maps would hurt performance wise, but playable for the most part. I recommend setting your settings to high, throw in 8x anti-aliasing. If you want more performance, lowering view distance will help. IN addition, I would recommend downloading a program called Throttlestop. It basically forces your CPU to run at full speed. This program helped alot for me since my CPU would throttle even when it wasnt overheating.
Edit: Had some stuff running while I played today, but basically GPU Usage = 30-80%, GPU vram around 880mb. CPU utilization pretty much stuck around 20%. This is all high settings, 1080p, 8x AA, getting 40-70fps on muttrah. My specs are i7-4700mq + 750m GT

8x AA? This slows performanceI recommend setting your settings to high, throw in 8x anti-aliasing.
I will give this a go and post the resultsI would recommend downloading a program called Throttlestop.

Re: System utilisation
If you're unsure what to do with Throttlestop, you can follow my settings:

Next to set multiplier, just go to the highest multiplier your CPU can do. Also, make sure you hit Turn On in the bottom right corner and Save in the bottom left. As a general warning, your CPU may run hotter but as long as its <90C then it should be fine.

Re: System utilisation
Will it automatically slow down the processing power to reduce heat? I don't want my laptop melting in my lap!

Re: System utilisation
Dont think so. Unless you're hitting like 100C, the CPU can go up into the 90s which I guess is fine since it was designed to take on more heat. Wouldn't playing on your lap be uncomfortable anyways?

Re: System utilisation
If it doesn't slow down the processing power at a certain temperature, then I can not use this program as my cooling system isn't so good. and personally, I prefer playing with the laptop on my lapDont think so.
