I got a brand new PC with Windows 8 now, but i noticed that my google research were a bit....off.
I noticed that instead of getting the normal results pages, i get some sort of full screen "custom search" result page. But only if i use the omnibox or the search on google.com.
If i use the Search app in Chrome, i get the normal pages.:

Left: Going to Google (notice old blackbar and copyright 2013)
Right: Opening the Google Search app in the chrome new tab page.

Left: Using google.com i get some sort of page that looks like a Google Custom Search results page sometimes used on websites.
Right: The page i'm expecting.
Anyone knows why this happens? I posted the same thing on Google support forums, but i haven't received a reply so far.

Re: New PC: Google showing "custom search" pages?
This just happened in the newest chrome release. It sucks.
I am using a Stylish.org plugin that edits the CSS of google.com search results pages to get back to what you and I both consider the superior page layout, that is the older style page layout.
1. in chrome (and/or firefox), download stylish.org extension
2. go to google.com and enter a search , get results.
3. click the Stylish button in your chrome address bar, click the "Find more styles for this site."
4. add the "Google Search Tools Back" style.

Re: New PC: Google showing "custom search" pages?
Well, that isn't really the problem.
It looks like i'm getting redirected towards a Custom Search version of Google (the url shows "gsc." which is used for google custom search API)
I'm not sure if it was the case since i first booted my computer or after i installed something, but i noticed that due to uTorrent, i had something called "Search Protector" installed. Which redirects google to yahoo now and then. I removed that, but i still got the same problem.

You can edit your search engines in Chrome.
Delete the custom Google, then add the default google.
Settings->Search->'Manage Search Engines' button:
default google search engine string:

It is already default, and it happens in every browser on my PC. (Even Steam browser)
