Also, if you really want to enjoy bf2 r work on getting a new internet connection to play multiplayer. It's really the heart of the game. I used to be just like you, then I started playing online and saw what I was missing. Obviously some things are beyond your control though so I wish you luck with your SP modding efforts. One piece of advice, make a copy of the game to do all your mods on, that way should you ever decide to play online you still could.

You can change FOV. Unfortunately, you cannot edit a config file to change it, you must use a program. I made a similar post and found a solution here.
