Explosion object Penetration
Hi, I want to know how object penetration works with explosions in PR.for example C4 and bomb trucks damage and kill you even behind walls so how does it work? is it if you reach a certain damage threshold or is it a scripted effect? It made me think that it would be great if HEAT rockets could send a blast into a room and wound/kill people inside like IRL instead of harmlessly exploding outside, it would really make clearing buildings easier. So yeah id like to know if it would even be possible or if its just not doable and if it is how you could mod rockets to do that(for my single player BF2 mods).

Re: Explosion object Penetration
it's done by those three variables:
penetrate.neverPenetrate
penetrate.allowSolidPenetration
penetrate.allowLiquidPenetration
penetrate.neverPenetrate
penetrate.allowSolidPenetration
penetrate.allowLiquidPenetration

Cool thanks for responding im curious as to whether you can make the explosion directional. For example im thinking of the RPG having a object penetrating frontal explosion so it can burst through walls and into rooms.[R-CON]Moszeusz6Pl wrote:it's done by those three variables:

i agree. its pretty lame that you can just hide behind a 5 cm wall without being killed by an rpg that hits the outside

Re: Explosion object Penetration
solid penetration meaning it goes through with 100% of damage ?
and liquid penetration meaning it loses force ?
and liquid penetration meaning it loses force ?

Bomb trucks don't kill (infantry) through walls but bomb cars do. Should make tank shells kill through walls as well, it's pathetic shooting 120mm HE shells at a guy hiding behind a thin brick wall and nothing happening.
Also Moszeusz, what affects damaging infantry and vehicles through walls? Because C4 for example destroys vehicles through walls but it doesn't kill infantry.

I was wrong about this parameters, it only affect projectile impact damage, not explosives, dumb me

Re: Explosion object Penetration
I though I would revive this thread because it seems to have ended suddenly without any of the questions being answered. Was this topic discussed in another forum?
Anyway, I agree that it's really strange how RPGs or even tank shells can't kill infantry behind a thin wall. Even if infantry is shooting at you from a window and you hit the edge of the window with an RPG, 2-3 feet away from the infantry, the blast won't even wound them. Also, a while ago I blew up a bump truck under a T building full of infantry and killed absolutely no one. Is this all intentional or are these engine limitations?

Re: Explosion object Penetration
I noticed that sometimes HE rounds from ifv cannons go through the wall and explode on the inside. I think it was one of those two story destructible buildings that feature on basrah and gaza quite a lot.

I'm pretty sure if irc most of the penetrating issues are that way because of engine limitations... I don't think too much more can be done.
And now, we wait.....

Yeah it just doesn't make sense that people can survive sheer hell from mortars and bombs and tank shells and area attacks if they are safe inside a T building (sometimes) or one of the many other enter-able structures that cannot be destroyed. PR would be more realistic and much more fierce if blast penetrated more as well as bullets. If some dev just hits up a ton of coffee and codes everything carefully so that everything interacts realistically, everyone will notice and worship that dev.

Re: Explosion object Penetration
There is an option for explosives that defines their force and power, however how this relates to static objects I do not know with BF2.
Either way a room full of enemies wouldn't be completely decimated by an RPG, this is more of a hollywood/call of duty idea than real life. Considering the most populous warhead on the RPG is a HEAT rocket:-
HEAT rounds were never designed for anti-personnel use, their original use was for penetrating thick RHA with a molten shape charge. The amount of explosive inside the warhead of an RPG or most HEAT rounds is only sufficient enough to turn the metal liner into a stream to penetrate the armour.
This means it's use against infantry is relatively limited compared to a fragmentation or standard high explosive round. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't at all want to be in a room when an RPG bursts through the wall as the chances are you'll probably take some molten copper to the face or simply be hit by shrapnel.
Lets hope PR2 can expand further on destructible statics, penetration mechanics and correct characteristics of warheads (frag, HE, thermobaric, tandem, HEAT, HESH etc) as they all serve important roles in today's warfare.
