Can not join the popular servers ?

Hello everyone.

I got this game today as it looked really good, checked that my mic is working fine and fired up project reality, first time ever. Tried to join the three most popular servers and it says i have been banned by an admin, first time playing it so not sure how i have been banned, could someone enlighten me, how am i meant to get behind this game when i can not play it.

Maybe just because of reserved squads. Most server have 98/100 because 2 slots are for clan-members. Wait until they have 97 players on them and join, or just choose a medium-filled server right away

When they have reserved slots on and all the non reserved are taken you get that message. If you highlight a server the amount of reserved slots should be displayed between ( ) .

If a server has reserve spots, the game will simply tell you that the server is full. If it says that you've been banned by an admin, it sounds like you aren't playing on a legit key, or are playing on a key that has been previously banned the admins on that server.

The servers are no longer ran by gamespy, therefore whether i have a legit key or not is void, the current servers do not check for my cd key so please stop saying this is the issue, unless i am missing something.

If a server has reserve spots, the game will simply tell you that the server is full. If it says that you've been banned by an admin, it sounds like you aren't playing on a legit key, or are playing on a key that has been previously banned the admins on that server.

This may just be the issue, so if a cd key has been banned in the past using that cd will mean you are banned, but why would this matter when the servers have nothing to do with the company's anymore ?

Why would a mod care as long as it is getting players when the people who created the game have abandoned it entirely, the people who keep this game running are doing so at their own cost, not ea or any other company so why would they still want to enforce stupid copyright rules.

The game is sorely lacking in players at the moment, maybe a good way to offset this would be to make the game truly free since the only company's who make money from it have stopped doing anything for it and abandoned the community, it does not make sense to me why the project reality mod would enforce a huge company like ea's copyright laws, bewildered.

A previously banned CD key/hash was banned for a reason. That is what Noddy is referring to. Getting rid og the GameSpy doesn't mean PR is now open for all players that were banned over the years just to "increase numbers".

If you got one of those keys accidentaly, not much anyone can do about it. You can of course post your hash in the forums of the respective server and request clarification, but the easiest is to just grab a legit key.

Yeah i get that, but honestly let me put it this way, if i were paying the creators of project reality i would happily and quickly buy this key without hesitation but since the money i pay would only be going in the wrong pocket, to a company that has wiped their hands with the game but will still take money for it, i really don't feel like paying it tbh, i have plenty of other games and i just spent over 100 pounds on steam to keep me busy for the next few months, just though since the servers shut down i could get this for free as well.

I guess i will just leave it then if there is no other solution.

You're banned because you're using a pirated CD key.

Although what you're saying about the company abandoning it is correct, it doesn't mean it should be removed.

If anyone can just download and play without buying the game there'd be:

Increase in hackers
Increased in greifing and trolling
No one can be banned

Just buy the game. If you really want(ed) to play pr, then buy it.

cost a Mc donalds meal on steam, about 9 euros I believe for the complete edition which I bought.

Try to buy it on steam and avoid the origin version.

He still hasn't gotten a good answer why there's a need to buy BF2. And honestly, me neither, but I wasn't that active the the gamespy patch came though. Maybe instead you should give him a good reason why you need to buy or be silent, instead of "just buy it".

He doesn't have to buy BF2, but the key he used (either from a list or from a keygen) has already been banned by server admins, and thus he can't join.

If he uses an unbanned key (from a .nfo list, from a keygen or from steam/origin) he will have no issues.

The reason why people are saying he should buy it is because we don't support copyright infringement on this forum and despite EA being (insert expletives here) the official stance is that we want players who have legitimately acquired their copy of BF2 to play. That being said, there is no technical limitation by the devs or server admins that prevent illegitimate keys being used, however you run a higher chance that some other ******* over the years has used one of them to grief/hack and thus it is blacklisted.

Does that make sense?

Yes it makes sense, thanks for the reply, i wish i had the will to install bf2 and all the patches again and use a different key though, for some reason the patches take a while on my computer and its not even bad.
