Build I might get
Hey guys,
I am wondering how you guys think of this build.... pretty inexpensive if ya ask me.
AMD FX-6300, MSI Radeon R9 280X, Thermaltake Chaser A21 - wannaarma3built - matty1053's Saved Part List - PCPartPicker
Yeah, I don't have that big of a HDD in the list, but I don't usually use much space. (I got 250gb now and have 100gb avaliable).
I am NOT planning on Overclocking at all either. And no optical drive, is I will use the one on my PC now.
Will this run ARMA 3 pretty well, as well as DayZ Standalone?
thanks!

Although I'm sure the graphics card will suit you fine, the processor is lacking a bit, and that will kill your frames in ARMA 3. From my understanding, the ARMA series has always been more CPU intensive than GPU intensive.
I'm running an i5-3470K, and although it runs at a slightly slower clock speed, and has only 4 cores compared to the FX-6300's six, in benchmarks, the i5-3470K has considerably better performance.
Also, I don't think 500 GB is going to be enough. In reality, you're only going to have about 430 or so(maybe more) usable storage space. I'd go with at least a TB. I'll let you in on a secret. Steam sales will rape your wallet, your soul, and your HDD. Don't try to fight it. Grit your teeth and take it like a man.

If I have extra money, I'll spend it on a 1TB HDD, yeah... $45 can make a difference in a build!JTtheOKIE wrote:Although I'm sure the graphics card will suit you fine, the processor is lacking a bit, and that will kill your frames in ARMA 3. And my friend on steam has the same build, just 16gb RAM, 2 TB HDD.
He says ARMA 3 runs fine on it, on Ultra.
And how is the Fx-6300 bad? It's #9 in the top 10 CPU's...

But, hell... this build looks to run ARMA 3 possibly on High 60fps. I just want 30-60 FPS, on average. But it will be better then the 2-9fps average I get on ARMA III on this p.o.s. PC!

Here's a video of ArmA "gameplay" with the same build as yours

How many FPS you think that is? 25-45?
I know that your CPU is going to be used greatly in online servers.

I can assure you that the FPS is above 30 on this one.matty1053 wrote:Thanks dude!

Just remind yourself that you can still lower settings if needed. From AAx8 to AAx4 can do wonders.
And to be honest, I don't see that much difference when going from ULTRA settings to MEDIUM settings other than less "crispiness".

yeah, even 30fps+ will look better then playing ARMA 2 on extremely low all of the time.Careless wrote:I can assure you that the FPS is above 30 on this one.

How do you know if a processor will work with a motherboard? Im considering of getting a intel processor instead of a AMD now... will the intel processor work well with the r9-280x? I think I will get a i5 processor, not sure which one.

Your question is incoherent.
CPU and motherboard compatbility.
In general, you always check if the CPU and motherboard use the same socket,
question 2:
Does a R9-280X, which is a GPU, work with Intel or AMD CPUs? Yes, as long as the motherboard has a PCI-Express x16 slot.
Mixing the terminology as you did, ... it's my suggestion you take quite a few hours to read up on building a PC before you attempt this with your new build.

Yeah, my buddy is going to help me set it up. And, I know what a GPU and CPU is. Just was wondering about the compatibility with the CPU and Mobo, I was a little drowsy when I was typing the last post up so that is why it made really no sense.[R-COM]LITOralis.nMd wrote:Your question is incoherent.

30 FPS in Arma3 SP mode is equal to slide show in MP. Ah the joy of Arma...3
No to get me wrong this build can take the beating, but you might need to lower those settings a tad. Who the hell need motion blur, bloom and MSAA ( resource hog ) if you can use FXAA and AF in combination with low MSAA and ATOC. Tweak! Depends ona mission you play, the server performance ...many things. If you're looking to play PvP/TvT mission mostly ( less to no AI ) you are good. Missions like Domination, Invade and Annex and similar on public servers are mainly to be avoided. Very poor performance! And a very poor gameplay.

Re: Build I might get
I am not looking into "sexy graphics" or "cute looks" in ARMA 3, I just want to play it at a comfortable rate... I asked around on a few other forums and I was told that if I run ARMA 3 on Medium, on the Current build I have posted in my OP, I can run it at 50fps+. (Which I Wouldn't mind).MaSSive wrote:30 FPS in Arma3 SP mode is equal to slide show in MP. Ah the joy of Arma...3

If I can't play on Ultra, that is fine with me... I think I am the only one who doesn't care about how 'cute' the graphics are, I just care how fun and replayable the gameplay is.
And I am thinking of playing ARMA III Life, and ARMA 3 Epoch... but I am planning on other games then ARMA 3 too... but I really want to get this PC for ARMA 3.
