Re: Contacts quick identification(new player)
as you get orders to move 1 direction from your SL, press Caps Locks and open your map: what direction do you go ? are their any friendlies underway, if so dubbelcheck your target, always when you move out from a fob/building/position/flag check your map and your destination... check if you will meet friendlies underway in your direction.. if nothing shows on map everything will be enemie, but at the end, its all experience, what i just said all will help you overal improve and make it a bit easier, but at the end you gotta learn the clothing from each faction so in a ''crazy situation'' you dont need to open your map in the middle of a firefight

How to tell apart friend from foe ?
I am having some serious issues telling apart friendly and enemies on some games and i am not sure what to do about it, for example i was in a battle and it was US vs Mec earlier and my squad was mortar striked but i managed to escape down an alley where i see a friendly medic, he heals me and then rushes off with his squad, i go and check the corner in front of me and look back down the alley in the same place where he was and there is a guy there wearing what looked to me to be the exact same cream uniform so he shoots at me and i just stood there like a lemon as i could not tell he was an enemy.
Is there any way to spot enemies to yourself so you know it is an enemy or any hints to tell me or any tips on how i can stop staring at enemies instead of shooting them ??

Check your map a lot of times before ya turn the corner.Anothercynicalbrit wrote:I am having some serious issues telling apart friendly and enemies on some games and i am not sure what to do about it, for example i was in a battle and it was US vs Mec earlier and my squad was mortar striked but i managed to escape down an alley where i see a friendly medic, he heals me and then rushes off with his squad, i go and check the corner in front of me and look back down the alley in the same place where he was and there is a guy there wearing what looked to me to be the exact same cream uniform so he shoots at me and i just stood there like a lemon as i could not tell he was an enemy.

Plus, after u play PR after a while... you tell the difference a lot.
The easiest to tell if it's a friendly or foe, if your facing/are the French Faction

Most of the times it's easy to tell apart - just takes some time to get used to. Check your map.
When you get better you will be able to tell friend and foe apart easily.

What I do is I click on my name so my icon appears white on the map, this helps me get my bearings so I know what is what which helps me identify friend from foe. Another tactic is to wait and see if they shoot first, it's risky but if I'm getting shot at, I'm going to shoot back until I know it's a friendly or not.

Re: How to tell apart friend from foe ?
Look in the direction of the enemy as well as approximate range, open your map and lead your mouse in that direction. If you see any friendlies in that path you're looking at friendlies. This takes 2-3 seconds at the most to do.
So: I see someone NW, open map point NW with mouse and approximate range of see nothing there so I fire.
OR look at weapons and uniform as well as the vehicle they're in, etc..
This is extremely extremely important in armor, and people disregard it very often and thus lots of friendly kills at times.

Thanks for all the replies and for linking me to this thread mods.
So what i have gathered is experience will help but for the moment check for helmets as they are a different color for everyone and if close enough weapons, i will rebind my map key so it is easier t bring the map up and check for friendlies and check it often to see if anyone is in front of me, also learn nesw asap.

Stick with your squad the squad and squadleader will point you in the direction of the enemy.

It's way easier and much faster with the map on capslock than the one mapped to m. The one mapped to m always loads slower in my experiences and I don't even know if it shows friendlies as I never use it.Anothercynicalbrit wrote:Thanks for all the replies and for linking me to this thread mods.

Always keep close tabs on the map.
Also if in doubt shoot (if weapons free),you can get your medic to revive him later.

Helmets are your friend. A Chinese helmet looks different from a Russian helmet looks different from an American helmet looks different from a MEC helmet. The only time this would be a problem is on Xiang or on Dovre winter. But everyone has problems on those maps to I guess just roll with it.

If they're close enough use mumble local to verify friend and foe.
This is presuming they haven't seen you

Soldiers from different factions also have different outlines due to their kit geoms. If you've just been revived and you are black and white it can be quite useful to use that to tell them apart.
