Project Reality RAM-Disk
Has anyone tried to place pr on a ram disk to see if it fixes the draw calls issue with low fps ? I mean I am getting low fps on some maps (<40 fps) and I want to know if getting more ram to place PR on it would solve the low fps issues .

That would not solve the issue, it's instructions that the CPU is processing, not a lack of ram latency, unfortunately.

I have used a ramdisk.
Specifically IMDisk,
read this:

and this:
The easy - and free - way to create and use a RAMdisk
It does not help FPS . It does help with LoD popping, ALOT. you can fly an attack heli and never notice the terrain popping because it's loading so fast you can visually recognize the terrain deformation. Same goes for switching between Lod3 and Lod1 for trees when moving fast in the chopper.

Let me chip in with a tip. Instead of buying more RAM and using third party software to build a Ramdisk, which is a bit dangerous for your entire system if you fail in some procedures and configuration, better buy an SSD drive and move PR on it. You may even get a slight increase in FPS, and loading times would be increased in multiples. LOD issues would be gone too.
To get higher fps, you need to invest in powerful high frequency CPU, where cores does not play a role. But since quad becomes a standard in gaming, in the end you will need a powerful high frequency quad core CPU, such as Intel i5 series.
Can I ask for your system specification and a number of FPS you are getting now? Also please post your video settings configuration and lets try to optimize.

Re: Project Reality RAM-Disk
I have a i5 3570k oc'ed to 4.5 (I also play arma) but going from 3.4 to 4.5 ghz didn't get me more fps.
Anyways my system:
CPU: Intel I5 3750k @4.5ghz
GPU: AMD 6970 2gb
RAM: 8gb @1600
HDD: 1 TB 7200rpm 64mb cache
My video settings are maxed and I am getting @50 FPS on most maps but I get a lot of FPS dips under 40 FPS and it gets really really choppy when it gets under 40 FPS , it stutters a lot . And I am trying to look for solutions to eliminate that problem .

I have the same. I mostly run at 85 to 100 FPS except on the worst parts of the worst maps.
Also, 8GB isn't really enough for a PR ramdisk,

I know , that's why I was asking , I could buy more RAM to put PRBF2 on it , and that's why I made this thread to see if anyone has done it and if so , to see if it is worth it .

Re: Project Reality RAM-Disk
Well as he said previously you will see no FPS increase with it so it wont help you in that aspect. What you need to do is investigate what is wrong with your setup if you have 50% less FPS than he has with the same CPU. Drivers, malware, fragmentation too many processes running in background, large HDD activity caused by some background service etc...

Re: Project Reality RAM-Disk
It was late at night when I replied.
Here are my specs:
CPU: Intel I5 3750k @4.5ghz
GPU: GTX 670 overclocked to stock GTX680 speeds
RAM: 8gb @2000 (I had been running 16GB to run PR on a Ramdisk, put 8GB of it in a office PC to save a few bucks)
OS and BF2
R on a SSD.
The crazy thing is, loading BF2 and PR from a SSD doesn't get you through the loading screen at strt of round any faster, because of the way BF2 and PR files are compressed, very large compressed files that have to be decompressed are the one weakness of most MLC SSDs. But, once in round, it does help in various ways, just not in FPS.
Basically, another 8GB of RAM is not the optimal way to spend the money you have to upgrade your PC.
Consider overclocking your GPU, (SLOWLY< CAREFULLY< AND AFTER READING ALOT ABOUT HOW TO DO THIS SAFELY)
so
1. disable AMD CCC overclocking.
2. use either MSI Afterburner or Sapphire Trixx to overclock your GPU.
And one note, the HD6970 when overclocked tends to run pretty hot, make sure you have ventilation flowing across the card if you don't have a reference rear exhaust cooler.
