Client Side Smoke Effects?

Post by Silver »

When playing the Fallujah "desert" map I have noticed something. When defending as MEC I usualy take up positions with a nice view and cover.

As I watch the horizon dust clouds fill my screen. Some are small, some are bigger. As I engage enemies in the distance, the clouds blocks the vision I have at my target, as realistic as this might be, I am sure this is client sided. At some points I get dozen's comming over, from 10 meters away, to up to the horizon.

To me, it would seem impossible to implement these smoke effects to be server sided, so my question is are these indeed client sided?

If they are, that means I see smoke at some point, and the foe I was shooting at might not see the smoke at all...

As much as I like the immersion, it's not balanced at all.

well of course the sandstorm effects are "played" on the client. But they are "defined" server side and .. subject to lag (of which there is little applicable to such effects) .. are identical for everybody on the server.

Yeah I got to say I disagree with Silver here, I was wondering this myself the other day, but very often I've been having a "shootout" of sorts with enemy infantry accross the dunes, and as soon as a sandcloud blows by I think "damn here we go", but the incoming rounds stop exactly the same time as my outgoing ones do.

My conclusion being that it's server-controlled. :)
