I think the best way to communicate a map's layout is to do a 2d overhead with maybe some prominent terrain features sketched onto the map.

The Oilfield and Outpost CPs are not completly planned out yet. Blue dots are MEC CPs, Red dots are PLA CPs and grey dots are neutral CPs.

I'll post some screenshots soon.

the big question is, why would MEC attack china or china attack the MEC? ;)

Nice, my idea was a bit more, Urbany...add a small city/ghost town around that place, could liven things up....plus that map reminds me of Fallujah :| hehe..

Yeah, seriously, they're fighting a common enemy! Ever hear that the enemy of my enemy is my ally?

However, in my map's universe, the Taiwanese government is striking deals with the MEC and the European Union, as visible on an embassy building.

Maybe, as MEC influence spreads through Northern Africa, China deploys troops in Sudan to defend key oilfields. (Sudan exports most of its oil to China)

BTW, Dark Skyline, I didn't mean to stel your idea, I didn't know you had an idea for a PLA vs MEC map. And also, nothing is wrong with 2 MEC vs PLA maps, as long as they are not to similar.

well sonce the MEC doesn't exist I think you can make up pretty much any fiction you want hehe. I say go for it wrt an MEC v PLA map :)

2d overview looks great. Only thing I would comment on is that .. er .. well 2 things:
1. I think in an MEC v PLA scenario, China would attack MEC for the oil
2. therefore it makes .. imo .. more sense to have the PLA attacking from the north into an MEC controlled oilfield.

Only thing is lack of desert camo for PLA, whcih could look wierd. But I suppose camo doesnt exactly 'work' in bf2 so it doesnt matter.

Are you thinking like burning oilfields and stuff?

Honestly its ok, your one sounds much more better than my one.... and Duck...im not spamming like crazy, i really did have a Mec VS PLA , it was called Al'Fazuri, i couldnt make the map due to lack of bfeditor experiance (but that has changed now :p ) and i wish i could make a mod as cool as this....... Good Luck with the map. post some screenies soon!!...

Anyone remember Daqing Oilfield? A diverse vanilla map with a setup something like this? It's in China though so it's not desert, but some tweaking and changing of flags and so on (rather than making a new map) would make one new, already tweaked, well running, and IMO pretty beautiful and well designed map. And nobody played it in vanilla anyway, but I think It'd suit PR quite well.

no one wants to play the vbf2 maps anymore. im not saying its a **** map, i loved it in vbf2 (ahh the days of plane whoreing in the f15 :D ) but its not very suited for AAS and PR at this present moment in time.

with a quility new map you get the "new" thing about it, and the maps gameplay made around PRs ;)

The problem with China attacking the MEC is they have no "staging area" for an invasion. Sudan exports mostly to the PRC, and thus the PRC may seek to defend the oilfield their. Maybe (since this is a fictional war) North Sudan (which is mainly Arab and Muslim) supports the MEC, while South Sudan (which is independant and has mostly indigenous beliefs, with some Christian) supports the PRC. Also, Unity (Al-Wahda in Arabic) contains rich oilfields and much of the fighting in the North-South civil war was focused around it.
