Purpose of radio for spotter kit.
Despite having played Project Reality for a while now I haven't used the spotter kit on many occasions (mainly due to lack of need). One thing that puzzled me the purpose of the radio in the kit. I know as squad leader the radio kit can be used to spawn in buildable assets and request support by pressing Q, however when I pressed Q as the spotter I wasn't able to get anything to happen. Also, On a side note is their any way to mark objectives on the map as a spotter by using the laser designator, I know you can do that as squad leader.

Its to spot targets on the map. Seems only fitting that a "spotter" spots.

Unless you are a squadleader, you can't use the radio. The spoter's idea is to be the squadleader. It's the same as officer kit right? Well no, it has a grappling hook and is extremely useful whether you are working with a sniper or spotting for CAS.

Guys please, I can understand not reading the manual when you are trying out the mod. But when you enjoy it read the manual and then come back to the forum with questions. PR is a bit more complicated compared to games like COD that are not complicated at all to not anger customers, but the payoff of the mod having a learning curve is a game that is fun long time.
If you do not have the basics down, like using the radio using the GLTD, you take out of the game information that the team relies on, especially heavy assets such as tanks and all CAS .
Most of the time a team gets steam rolled it isn't because of mad skills, but because the other team has a better grip on the basics of the game.

Re: Purpose of radio for spotter kit.
yes read the manual but always feel free to ask questions on the forums too whenever you feel the need!
we've historically been a strong community and if that is to be maintained we require all newer players to be welcomed with open arms.
Someone asked a question they could have found the answer themselves? Oh well, they wasted a couple of KB of internet data and now they have their answer they can better serve our community and their team ingame.
So yeah, the answer to the question is that the radio weapon is used to spot targets with the Right click and commrose functions. HOWEVER we've not been able to find a way to allow non-sq leaders to mark targets (the game function would work, its the number of unique HUDs that is the problem according to the DEVs I talked to about it).
Therefore, the spotter kit is often less useful than the officer kit for sqd leading a sniper.
Ignoring the radio itself, the spotter is useful in how it carries binocs and on irregular teams it's often one of the rarer scoped rifles. If I choose to include a sniper in my squad I will usually omit the spotter kit unless I am on an irregular team so that we can get another scope in the squad.
Although, no one can deny that the spotter and sniper kit working together looks badass and there is certainly advantage in ensuring a binoc armed kit is helping the sniper look for targets, it is just a shame the spotting function won't work; but as long as the information is relayed to the SL/Commander it'll get marked ok.

In that case the spotter should be the squad leader. It will have a slight advantage over the SL kit as it has a grappling hook.

Thanks for your help guys, I actually have read the manual but I never found the answered to that question (just like the manual also doesn't mention that you need to use rocks to spot mines as insurgents). Maybe I just wasn't looking hard enough.
