Re: Knife
Say your gun runs empty and you have to stab an enemy in close combat. This has happened to me before. it's pretty embarassing when you stab him once, and he continues to reload and then guns you down. This is highly unrealistic. I thought this was project 'reality'

Re: Knife
Well one knife in real life isn't guaranteed to kill someone, what if you miss the vital organs and get a simple stab in the gut? US Marine during WW2 got stabbed 3 times by a japanese with a bayonet and he still got back up and returned fire after that.
So, yea "I thought this was project 'reality'" It is.

Oh it's this thread again.

ETA: I'm not sure why we have knives. Considering each soldier carries a nice big club that is always in his hands at the moment he runs out of ammunition. That doesn't require anything but lifting up and smashing into the face/head of the person he is trying to kill. Non-lethal too, handy for arrests (wink wink).

Re: Knife
No, but i've been on this game and forum long enough to know that a lot of it is nonsense in some regard. Since deviation is so low now, we might as well nerf bullet damage, this way people will fire a realistic number of rounds in a firefight

Reality as in the norms, not the exception.H.Maverick wrote:Well one knife in real life isn't guaranteed to kill someone, what if you miss the vital organs and get a simple stab in the gut? IRL you had insurgents hit by 5.56 and kept firing. Or someone suiciding with .45 and FAILED to kill self. Those are the exceptions.
The knife in PR simulates a cut to the vital area and/or beheading the enemy; as you would if you sneak behind enemies(which is when you use the knife, not when two people ran out of ammo...because you can sprint away while reloading to avoid being knifed).
There is no reason for knife to be two-hit kill because you can hipfire someone down in such close range with any weapon; and knife(not Machete because it's cool) has a preparation animation(for "balance") already.
A tool that can open up enemy's throat as well as open up canned rations.Cpt.Future wrote:Military knives IRL are mostly used as a tool, not as a weapon![]()
Like Shovels...too bad we don't have shovel melee.

So, the turban of the taliban medic is acting like an helmet, because i once stab one and it need 2 hits to kill him.Spook wrote:With bayonet its usually one hit, but with knife its almost guaranteed that its 2 hits or more. And its not buggy hit detection, because the victims are taking damage from the first stab. I guess it has something todo with body armor. Hitting legs or head is still insta kill.

Re: Knife
Can someone explain how body armor works in PR. From what I can tell it can't be like in real life where bullets that fail to penetrate do little to no damage.Rusty_42 wrote:Have you tried using shotgun? Implementation of body armour was not a good thing.

Re: Knife
The actual damage of a projectile impact is the product of the base damage of the projectile and the damage modifier vs. the material impacted. For most handheld weapons, the applicable modifiers are: 1 vs. heavy body armor, 1.3 vs light (insurgent) body armor, 1.7 against an unarmored torso/thighs, 1.1 against limbs, and 5 against a head.
Bullets that do not penetrate in real life can still do a great deal of damage, especially if it's a rifle-caliber bullet. The force of impact can break ribs, cause severe bruising and internal bleeding, and damage organs.

Re: Knife
I know a knife is one of the best weapons for close combat, but the problem is putting your gun on your back and taking out the knife
I think IDF method is faster, safer and realistic
Face to face, if you run out of ammo, you WILL have to use anything you can see, even a rock or your own fists if necessary. And fast, otherwise your enemy will take you down faster than your reaction. Using your guns stock to knock down your enemy seems pretty realistic to me
And in game, it seems useful:
compare IDF melee to USMC knife
IDF melee is faster
Don't need to have a long animation, since it's the same gun you're holding
Fast animation means it will be safer to melee distracted enemies (many times I died during the knife's animation)
Maybe adding 2 hits to kill a person and 1 to arrest an insurgent?
Sadly it seems to be pretty boring to add an animation to most weapons have a melee attack mode

Re: Knife
I figured that body armor was just a damage modifier. Although personally I think reports of bruising/fracturing sustained while wearing body armor is dramatically overstated, I hope you guys don't change anything. Simulating American body armor with Level IV ceramic plates would kill the game and essentially make firefights last for ages until assets get around to destroying everything.[R-DEV]M42 Zwilling wrote:
