Windows 8.1 "1301: Unable to contact verification server"

Post by Shonuffwillis »

I've been battling this error for about 24 hours now, and I've singled out the problem. The firmware on router, which is Norton ConnectSafe, believes that the verification server is a threat to my computer, therefore, blocks it. So I searched this error on the forums and found the solution for it, which is to add ports for my antivirus to accept. I've seen some people say its 28900, but I did a process monitor and it appears mine requires 29900. The opening of the ports is the part I'm getting tripped up on. I turned off all of my protection too allow everything, and the updater worked, but when I turn my protection back up to filter possible malicious websites, the update gives me the "1301". What all exactly do I need to put into the port exceptions in order to allow the PR updater to not fail?

Hiya and welcome to PR,

thanks for doing the legwork to get this far into troubleshooting, I think you might need to give an exception to ancientdev.com and files.ancientdev.com which is the PR Lead Dev's website where the update server and files are located.

CreateAccount: TCP 29900
RetrieveAccount (Username): TCP 29900
RetrieveAccount (Email): TCP 29901
Login: TCP 29900
ValidateKey: UDP 29910

Still kind of amateur to this adding port thing, would you recommend adding all of those ports? Still having difficulties. I only added the ValidateKey port.

It's only 3 ports
TCP 29900
TCP 29901
UDP 29910

Also, make sure your antivirus is not blocking PRLauncher.exe and PRUpdater.exe
AVG antivirus does it , as do many others.
Make an exception (whitelist) those executables.
