This thread got me thinking about mitigations for lone-wolfers running off with limited kits like the sniper kit. I see this happening with other kits as well like the HAT. Would it be possible to create a system where taking a limited kit would prevent the player from using that instance of the kit if they left the squad? For example, if a player joins a squad and grabs a sniper kit, then if they leave the squad, the kit acts like an enemy limited kit for them (eventually fading to black and killing them). For other players, the kit would still act normally. The squad ownership and requestor would need to persist accross drops of the kit to prevent the squad member from grabbing the kit, dropping it, leaving the squad, and then picking it back up.
Naturally this could be defeated by having a different member of the squad request the kit (which might themselves be in collusion with the lone-wolfer), but at least in that case it would require some degree of cooperation and consent from the squad, and make it a lot less convenient for a single player to run off with the kit.

Re: Preventing Limited Kit Lone-Wolfing
just make it so you need to be in a squad like vehicles when you have certain kits, like sniper, marksman, etc (medic is important though so i'd exclude it)
you could circumvent it but if all squads are made, you might have trouble finding a home if everyone knows you're just joining for kits

Have I stepped into a wired parallel universe where yellodeaths suggestion wasn't implemented over 5 years ago?

"Mojo, get some AT off the crate and hit that tank"
"Sir, i need you to come up here and hand it to me"
see the problem?
Edit: Maybe a kit request could be sent to squad leader for approval?

More unnecessary micromanagement for the SL?T.A.Sharps wrote:
No I don't, the situation would be more like this...
Squad Leader: "Mojo, we need AT, link up with me at Alpha 8 key pad 5 ASAP so I can lay a rally to get us the kit and then we will go hunt down the armor."
Mojo: "On my way."
A kit request would be nice too still putting the SL in charge of allocation, but it seems like it would promote more squad cohesion to have the SL be more valuable.
I don't see a real reason that special kits need to be so convent.
I also see this...
Squad Leader: " Mojo here is your medic kit... Yellodeath here is a AR kit, MooseBoys I need you to take this Specialist kit..."
Mojo: "I think I should take the Sniper kit we might need it."
Squadleader: " We won't need the Sniper kit for anything on this map. Pick up your kits and lets roll out."
IMO, simple script which tells admin that player is not in squad and has HAT kit would do a trick.
OR:
Mark him as yellow dot on the map so everyone on the team knows they are lonewolves. Do not punish for TKing lonewolves - ala traitor system. Highlight them in Scoreboard and notify squads when such person joins squad.
Problem solved.

Don't forget that according to new rules you won't be able to request a kit from a rally point.T.A.Sharps wrote:

I like this alot, as long a requests can be approved while wounded or dead. It seems like it'd be more difficult to implement though.badmojo420 wrote:Maybe a kit request could be sent to squad leader for approval?

Having a LAT spawn from a pile of bags, or any kit in general... No, there is a reason kits require to be near crates or APC's those are where those weapons would be kept. Making the squad leader request everything is just micromanagement and very inconvenient. Not to mention what if its one of those people who dont care and just do their own thing. So the rest of the squad would be crippled because they couldnt grab anything.

I think the best solution is using the "Approve Commander's marker" mechanic to have the squad leader approve or deny kit requests; maybe only for Sniper and HAT though?
I don't think killing people who leave squads with the requested kit is a smart idea. Sometimes players join a squad, spawn a kit, and then get kicked to make room for a clan mate/friend or whatever. It's not fair that that person is then killed.

Re: Preventing Limited Kit Lone-Wolfing
There is no need to prevent anything...if you are a sq leader and some1 use your squad just to take a kit or he dont know how to use a kit ---kick him from squad and close it. There is some situations that you dont have time to think - do he really need a kit- or that man on field doesnt have a time....in that kind of situations if you know how to use a kit you can save not just your squad , whole game....
"please i need a kit there is tank at 100 m from me....can some1 ask some1...there is no kit for you get up and attack that tank with weapons that you have"
...no...there is no need to complicate something when there is a kick button and close sq button .
In real war you can get a bullet from a wrong look at your teammate,at field in fight there is no to much ranking.
Bigger problem is mumble.
It will be good to write some message "you can be kicked from squad or even a server if you are not using a mumble or not responding to your teammates" -even there is a mumble in 1.0 i believe that there will be people that will not use it ....

Re: Preventing Limited Kit Lone-Wolfing
Kitrequest approval by SL! This idea is over two years old and i can't believe it isn't implemented yet. More POWER to the SL. I'm just trying to push this again. I'm imagine this kind of like this: squadmate request a kit, the scribt, like now, checks if it's available and only if it is, sends a request to the SL like a commander order but with suqadmembername and kit-name wich the SL can accept or deny with page up or down. Though some kits shouldn't need a approval like Rifleman, Medic, AR, LAT, Breacher.
Lone wolfing gets harder. You will now need three people to get a sniperkit and that isn't a lonewolf anymore isn't it?
Why not DEVs?
Same could be used to change the use of vehicles in PR. Instead of free for all vehicles every squad should request its own vehicles which can only be used by the squad which requested it otherwise it fades to black. but this is something for another thread. No more kit and vehicle stealing. No more fights about logis.
