cant seem to hit jack shit
so basicly they title says it all: i get the feeling guns are wildly inacurrate. now i served in my countries army and have fired a wide variety of guns, and know roughly how precise each is. at full sprint, i can stop, aim, and pop 5 rounds in a chest at 200 meters with no issue in under 3 seconds. yet in pr, it happens all the time that i am prone, unmoving, aiming at a target under 100 meters, squeeze single shots, and dont seem to hit anything, yet hes only walking, and my crosshair is DIRECTLY on his chest. then he sees me, stops, crouches, and with an ak47 with no scope, kills me in his first burst. to be honest i adore PR and cant wait for a standalone game, but BS like this infuriates me. sometimes i get the feeling bullets arent spawning or something because its impossible for me to miss. also i get the feeling, for some obscure reason, that im more accurate in burst then semi. same situation: i pop in a street and go prone. wait a few seconds and see a guy turning the corner and walking. pop a few shots with no effect, even though hes under 200 meters, and walking, and im prone, and aiming perfectly on his chest. he starts sprinting in panic, i switch to burst, squeeze once and he goes down. its like WTF. am i lagging? is there genuinely a bug? like if i sprinted and suddenly aimed and fired then yeah sure i get it, im not as precise. but in all these situations im talking about prone for several seconds and shooting at nearby, walking, unaware targets.
also as far as i know (and this might be my issue) you cant adjust weapons for distance, like in red orchestra for example, so i know my scope is probably aimed at 300 meters, which means that anything under, you aim directly, with no height adjustement on the scope. id really appreciate if people could tell me if theyve ever had this same issue, or whatever. thanks.

Re: cant seem to hit jack shit
From the PR Manual.? Weapons after prolonged movement sometimes take a moment to gain precision and accurately fire at long range targets. Engagements at short distances will be uneffected by movement based deviation. This allows players to make small positional corrections without suffering weapon inaccuracy. Going prone greatly reduces the player's accuracy for a few moments but provides the highest accuracy for engaging long distance targets once the player's aim has recovered.
? Most weapons are set to semi-automatic operation by default.
? Weapons need to be reloaded manually (default: R).
? Weapons deviation is not affected by having optics or iron sights equipt.

The best way to learn how the diviation system works is to pick up a Heavy Anti-tank kit (in single player) and look at how different actions affect the accuracy of your rocket launcher. It has 2 White indicators "( )" that you need to keep your eyes on. All other handheld weapons in PR fuctions the same way as the HAT, they just dont have those indicators.

Oh, my sweet summer child, what do you know of deviation?
Seriously though.. take the time to search the forums, and you'll find many threads on this topic.
FWIW Deviation is a lot better now than it used to be.. We've come from laser rifles, then a game of pot luck where it felt like you throwing buckets of bullets down range in the random hope something might hit the enemy 5 meters away from the one you were aiming at to where we are at now.

well like i said, i was prone for a solid 10 seconds, aimed directly for the chest of a walking target at less then 100 meters, popped at least 5 rounds and unless i didnt see the little red cloud, it didnt hit. i understand deviation, and that game needs to put guns less accurate then IRL. but i get the feeling theres an issue, like a glitch or bug, outside of the deviations and the such.

Re: cant seem to hit jack shit
If I recall, the red puff of blood you see on occasion is not necessarily a hit...
There are other factors too I imagine including client and server side lag. Playing with a 200ms ping I often have to aim a way ahead of the direction the target is moving almost letting them walk into the shot. In addition, old game engine pushed to its max. I think its a bit like golf for me. I cant hit shit either but when you get one nice one it makes the whole game worthwhile again.
p.s. In my defence I'd like to add that I'm not a golfer!

don't go prone in 1 on 1 situation. Make a video when it appears againKandiell wrote:well like i said, i was prone for a solid 10 seconds, aimed directly for the chest of a walking target at less then 100 meters, popped at least 5 rounds and unless i didnt see the little red cloud, it didnt hit. i understand deviation, and that game needs to put guns less accurate then IRL. but i get the feeling theres an issue, like a glitch or bug, outside of the deviations and the such.

Also bear in mind that the game does not represent a 1:1 scale in terms of distances. Measure 50m in game, then go and compare in real life by looking at a person at that distance. The BF2 engine makes things look closer than they actually are, in my opinion. Once you realise this the accuracy of the weapons makes a lot more sense. Then you can start to consider the view distances and that it's not really possible to 'simulate' the range of a gun at 1:1 to real life (view distance on most maps is too small to allow this so they are set up to be accurate 'relative' to each other).
Oh and luck.

I'm glad you're enjoying the game and if you have deviation problems I feel bad for you son.
There are a couple of extra things to remember. i) Confirmation bias - you're remembering the times that you were unlucky and forgetting the times when you got an amazing shot off. ii) Some people have been playing this game for absolutely ages, so will have a much more well honed sense of how to work with the deviation, instead of having the deviation work against them.
To whit - some general advice: avoid going prone under most circumstances, besides the deviation you're slower to move off and your legs might click through objects. Move slowly, if you expect action, avoid sprinting. Call out targets to your squad mates, if you miss, hopefully they wont.

Good luck out there

Re: cant seem to hit jack shit
I used to shoot a lot of fighting rifle in RL until I messed up my ACL last spring. For a person that is used to handling a rifle this game seems a bit... off. However it is for good reason because, as I understand it, realistic weapon movement and sway is impossible on the BF2 engine so this is the next best thing :/
I just wish the system of movement and shooting was a little better for CQB move+shoot. Something like Arma3's movement system. Yeah yeah bunch of whiners are going to come in here now "Ooohh I hate arma3 its the worstest! waaaa!" Well perhaps you aren't allowed to have a gun in your country but here in Canada a lot of people shoot guns regularly and I have to say the method of movement control in Arma3 is about as good as it can get with a keyboard and mouse.

To be honest a sizeable portion of the forum come from countries that still have mandatory public service, so don't assume that the player base is totally inexperienced in the matter..

Re: cant seem to hit jack shit
Exactly, I just rage quit from that game. The same thing happened on the last 3 matches, if it was just a few times I'd be good about it, but right now it got me pissed.
I always try going prone, switching to semi-automatic and waiting from 3 to 5 seconds before shooting, I had two guys about 200 meters away from me, and amazingly, even if I start firing first, they can just sprint around, go prone or crouch and full auto me back hitting most of the shots, while even if I hit a shot the recoil takes my sight outta target and when I move it back to the target my second shot seems to hit anywhere else than where I'm aiming, this is getting stupid already, not to say that their super accurate shots always kill me (wound most of the times) instantly or leave my screen full of blood, so I can't see **** but they always seem to do.
People say that you should go prone, wait five seconds and try shooting at least two times a second, and I barely shoot once a second and all my shots after the first just hit everything else, I think I should start aiming at something else that's not the target so I can have a better luck hitting it, it's like if my sights were there to show where the bullets aren't gonna hit.
If anyone did play BF3, the thing which happens here is similar to there when you start shooting at full auto (on bf3) and, while holding the fire button, you toggle the sights, you'll see your bullets are going all over the place.
I don't know, like seriously, is there some type of secret tip on how to hit things?! Because I see people sprinting everytime, actually sprinting not just running, then getting under fire, going prone (but crouched most of the times) and spraying like hell the enemy while getting amazingly accurate shots. At first I thought it was me thinking I was actually doing something wrong, but after it happening for the 16th time I don't think it's my mind just making me believe it's not happening because I'm raging.

Write this in the console, according to your ping. You probably have too good or too bad ping.
SettingsManager.floatSet GSDefaultLatencyCompensation 0.x
Where x is your ping out of 1000. So ping of 100 = 0.100. Ping of 50 = .050.

Its a l2p issue. Shoot from standing or crouch, for anything under 100 meters you can shoot full auto, or if your gun has burst then something like 50 meters.

To be fair you hit a lot more often in PR than you would in combat IRL .

and how do know this you may ask...because i was a U.S. Army Paratrooper.
this is a game....gaming takes practice and most likely practice takes getting your *** kicked a bunch of time...just like training to be a fighter....you dont just come into a gym and start kicking everyone's *** without proper training and conditioning....unless u use hax like john jones

Re: cant seem to hit jack shit
Greetings there.
Look, this has been an eternal discussion on these forums. Souls have fallen into the pits for voicing their opinion left and right about it.
The general direction of the game is to force natural squad behavior using unnatural means.
Though I haven't played this game for a few years now, so I can't say how unnatural or natural it is.
You are basically "strongly encouraged" to fight at a distance, while the game almost completely lacks good shortrange and sprint weapons.
